I have a 97 crew cab with stock air box with a K&N filter inside. Is there any thing on the market or suggestions on how to improve the air flow? Like some of the high performance kits you see for gas engines. I have seen the one for the Duramax, how about the 6.5? What would happen if you just leave the cover off the box? Would the hot air from the engine bay be to much for the intake system? Yes the snorkel is not installed and everyting is pretty much stock.
New crossover and down pipe.
Thanks

I saw this on thier web site but it says it is up to 96 models. Mine is a 97 with the mass air flow sensor. This kit calls for those without sensor. So please correct me if I am wrong.

With an intake like this, aren't you sucking in warmer underhood air rather that cooler air from outside the fender?
I have found using a laser thermometer that yes you do. I just left my cover off to simulate the same condition and the temps went up an average of 20-30 degrees. I did ask the manufacture of this product about this and have not recieved a reply. Yes you do get much more air but your right it is warm air you are taking in.

Only problem I see with that set up is it's sucking in under hood heat which is extra hot during summer months, I run my air box lid off in winter months, and bak on in summer, can you go one step further with that and fab a duct shrouding the air filter to an opening into the fender cavity. GMCTD & I were looking into something along these lines for mine, the late model duct work is very restrictive especially with a MAF sensor in line. looks like you could also get some ram air boosting effect through the fender if you opened it up in some strategic places

i kinda have the same question! but whould an intercooler take care of the problem if the aftermarket air filer was used? seeing on how the aftermarket air filer takes place of the stock box, and brings in more air. so then would the intercooler take place of the higher heat from the aftermarket box?
