I went down to the local dealer to find out about getting tow mirrrors for my truck since ,I will be picking up my new trailer in 2 weeks. The dealer told me that my truck does not have the right wires to hook up towing mirrors. I am not looking for top of the line power mirrors that go out and in. I just want the mirrors to adjust them self with the controls.

Is there any aftermarket mirrors out there that are not that expensive and will do the job without D O T giving me shit about not seeing past my trailer ?

thanks
Pete

If you have power now, the factory style tow mirrors will work. It may require changing the door module or a reflash, but they will work.

X2 only the big mirror moves automatically not the little one so the power source should be simular

Looks like you have the same mirrors I had. Power adjust and heat, no turn signal. I didn't even know they were heated until I turned the rear defrost on.

I installed the 2006 Tow Mirrors. They bolted right up and just plugged in. Power adjust, heat and turn signals all work. No re-flash or additional parts/switches needed.

I'm a happy guy!

Take the molding off the door that is covering the inside corner at the mirror (Triangle shaped piece of plastic) and remove the foam behind the mirror if any.

See what type of connectors are on your mirror. Here's a picture of the tow mirrors I just took off my truck. There is a black and a blue 10 pin connector on the tow mirrors to control mirror adjustment, defrost and signal. I'd think your mirrors are going to have the same connectors since they are likely heat and adjust. You just might not have the signal power.

I don't think your dealer knows what he is talking about. Most models have the same wiring harness to the door, too much $$ to do otherwise for the company

To access those plugs you have to remove the door panel(or atlest on mine i did) they plug into the DDM and cannot be accessed unless the door panel is removed.

You are correct. I just did it two days ago and totally forgot.

How hard is it to remove the door panel?

And uscanuck, why did you take yours off? Looking at trading them for another pair?

The door panel is simple, there is a screw in the bottom, one right below the door handle, and the other is behind the lock(it pops out with a screwdriver). then the door panel slides up.

Door panel was easy to remove. I have to take off the passenger side sometime to fix the speaker and if I remember I'll take some pictures if you want.

I took these off because I had a pair of Schefenacker TTT's sitting here from my previous vehicle. Nothing wrong with the towing/camper mirrors I'm just more comfortable with the TTT's. I'll likely sell the GM tow mirrors either in the marketplace or on Ebay.

Also, check out in the DIY section about "leveling" the mirrors. They look much better level, IMO. :D

Go to the TTT-mirror website and click on installation instructions.

Here's the instructions

You can also get some knock-offs for less than the OEM's if you can do without the turn signals.

If you purchase OEM mirrors IT WILL WORK! My buddy just did it... he went from power extending to power folding and works fine. Only hickup is when you want to fold the mirrors in or out you have to hold the button unlike mine you just hit the button in the direction you want and it moves.

BUT IT DOES PLUNG IN AND WORK WITH NO PROBLEMS!

I bought mine from fenderworld.com. They don't have the led turn signals but they are also a lot less than the other options. Mine were $260 for the set including shipping and I think they are cheaper for the new body style.

They work great and I could not find anything to complain about on a 600 mile trip from here to SD so they were worth every penny.

Check out Certifit.com. I purchased many of parts through them as I buy and sell cars for a living. In 03-07 they have three different style mirrors.

-Door Rear View Mirror (03-07) power, heated, w/o puddle/signal lamp and sensitivity, manual folding, black $37.75

-Door Rear View Mirror (03-07) power, heated, w/ puddle lamp, w/o signal lamp and sensitivity, manual folding, black $54.75

-Door Rear View Mirror (03-07) power, heated, w/ puddle lamp, w/o signal lamp and sensitivity, manual folding, painted (same as Avalanche) $47.75

Are any of these them?
