: Speedometer Recalibration?
Leader_03 01-26-2005, 01:23 PM I put 285's on my truck and Im lookin for the best way to do it. The dealer that I bought it from said they could do it at $60/hr and it would take about 2 hours. Is this the best way to do it or should I get a Superlift Truspeed? Will both methods give me the same results? What else needs to be changed other than the speedo? ABS, Tranny Shift Points? Thanks in advance for the info.
D_Maximus 01-26-2005, 01:26 PM Get a Diablo Predator... Correct for tire size, raise your speed limiter, and tune her up a little while you're at it!
Max Power 01-26-2005, 01:26 PM The dealer can't do it.
I recommend the predator. It will recalibrate for tires, add power (up to 100hp) and also read trouble codes.
DSTRBD 01-26-2005, 01:47 PM I agree, go with the Predator. Very easy to use and has a bunch of extra features to boot. You will not need to change anything else.
robby 01-26-2005, 08:06 PM so the predator changes everything you need to do, abs ,speedo and it should be within 1% or so is that right.
thanks
Max Power 01-26-2005, 08:18 PM Not ABS as far as I know. The dealer would have to do that. Mine is accurate within 1% of my GPS or less!
Deadeye 01-26-2005, 09:16 PM could a tech2 recal the ABS?
dpower 01-26-2005, 10:17 PM The predator is my recomendation as well.
Leader_03 01-27-2005, 09:17 AM Thanks for the info guys. Predator sounds like the way to go. What level do you guys run it on just for normal driving? How bout while towing?
BudTX 01-28-2005, 10:54 AM I installed my Predator this week, and have run about 300 miles on her since then. As I do not have EGT gauges yet, I set it at 65 HP for normal driving and towing up to 8k, and would drop it down to 40 HP if I had to tow heavy.
I plan on adding a Juice/*** for the temp gauges and tranny protection and stacking it on the Predator, then running a larger exhaust. A tranny upgrade will follow.
McRat 01-28-2005, 11:15 AM Thanks for the info guys. Predator sounds like the way to go. What level do you guys run it on just for normal driving? How bout while towing?
Set to Kill with a big 'ol bottle of NAWWWWSSS, and a couple of JATO bottles.
And that's for towing.
Seriously, for heavy towing I don't run over a 65HP tune with any tuner.
WAskier 01-28-2005, 01:14 PM My bullydog power pup did the trick for me but sounds like you've probably made up your mind with the predator. I think the predator has a extra feature or two over the power pup anyway.
gtguy67 01-28-2005, 06:28 PM I was running at the 65 setting with the stock pipe and some light towing (dirt bikes). I added a MBRP cat-back system this week and bumped it to 85 today, a small SOTP improvement. It is still very smooth. Gauges are next....
D_Maximus 01-28-2005, 08:16 PM I've still got stock exhaust, and no gauges (both are on my Valentines wish list...), so I've only been running 65hp for now...
Solid performance, stiffer shifts.
LanduytG 01-28-2005, 09:07 PM Just installed the Predator 65hp tune today. Man what a difference, its so smooth compared to stock. Also my egt's drop about 100* as well. Trans is still adapting but I think another day will take care of that.
Greg
blown65 01-28-2005, 09:13 PM Ya, I just did the Predator at 65 also, I have E/A also on the truck, but was somewhat curious as to the Predator. Also wanted to correct my speedo so works out good. Personally, Pred feels so much better low end wise. Right now I'm on 65HP Pred and level 2 with 1 on low boost with the E/A and feels very very nice. Nice smooth power.
D_Maximus 01-28-2005, 09:30 PM Also my egt's drop about 100* as well.
Greg Do you have stock exhaust? How hot are you running? Towing?
LanduytG 01-28-2005, 10:02 PM Stock exhaust other thanLB7 down pipe. EGT's not towing would run 650 or so running 70mph stock On the Predator 65hp tune it will run 500-550. Bottom end is much better and the whole power range is smooth. Even though the trans has not fully adapted yet its great. I need to get a bigger exhuast before I play with the 2 bigger tunes.
Greg
Leader_03 02-01-2005, 01:33 PM Thanks for all the info guys. I think Ill install the 65hp tune for now till I get some guages. I dont think Ill have a problem with EGT cuz Im runnin 4' duals.
GAdmax 02-01-2005, 06:39 PM If i am running 315/75/16 what setting do i nee to put my powerpup on to correct the speedometer. I set it at 35" because that is what i thought 315's were equivalent to but now my speedometer is 3-4 mph fast.

azjake 02-02-2005, 10:52 AM Can anyone tell me if recalibration is a "trial and error" thing with the Predator?
I've been running the 33" Toyos for a while now, so maybe I'm just used to the speedo being understated, but I received my Predator from JK the other day and immediately put in the 65HP tune, once I modified the tune to go from 245's to 285's. Speedo now seems too high. Unfortunately I don't have access to a GPS, and if I try to run at 60 MPH on a freeway here in AZ, I'll get run over. Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, for me it was trial and error. With my 285's, the "285 setting" with the Predator was inaccurate. The 265 is REAL close.
Deadeye 02-22-2005, 02:26 PM interesting; I did a dyno day and Bronco stacked his Quad 110 on my HJAT. He measured me 35" tires at 33 " and that is what he entered in the Quadzilla. It seemed to be more accureate. Not sure why my 35"s are really 33"s ??
MaxFarmer 02-23-2005, 12:51 AM I've noticed that the predator is off a little as well. Some of the small towns aroun here have those signs that radar you and post your speed so you can "see" that you're speeding... Whats funny is that the Attitude monitor is right on with them. The predator is off a couple of mph most of the time though.
Does it really take the stealer 2 hours to change the speedo?
Predator takes minutes! Hell one stealer change is about half the price of a predator alone!

CalDirt 02-23-2005, 01:31 AM where'd you guys buy your predator? best I've seen online is $349 with the $50 rebate.
D_Maximus 02-23-2005, 09:31 AM Supporting vendors... :thankyou2

Rockin 02-23-2005, 10:13 AM $329 max dog something or other. Most will price match.
You don't have to go 60 mph to calculate speed. at 75 mph, it takes d = r * t
1 mi = 75 mi/hr * ?s
1 mi / ( 75 mi/hr ) = ?s
1 mi / ( 75 mi/( 60 min * 60 sec ) ) = ?s = 48 sec
CalDirt 02-24-2005, 11:04 AM D_Max - I'd like to use a supporting vendor and planned to - but I need a link/URL. Have no idea who or where to start with.
D_Maximus 02-24-2005, 11:20 AM Not trying to play favorites, but Kennedy has been one of the many helpful vendors, and he happens to be fairly local to me.
