I put my six-gun switch version on tonight and was wondering if I really need to do like the book says and run the truck through every power level for 5 to 10 minutes until I get to the one I want, or can I just put it in the level I want and let it learn. Already found out they weren't lying about the tranny having to learn the power first. The chip shut down on my first run from tranny slippage.

I would do it ! I had a super duty with the 6.0 with the six gun and i had to do the tranny learning with mine! Its a pain to to do all six levels! I suggest you find a long straight back road with no traffic to do it on. You have to do a lot of starting and stopping!

The book says to drive the truck for 5 to 10 minutes in level 2 making sure it goes through all the gears. It takes 15 to 30 shift cycles for the transmission to adapt to the power. After you do that it says to repeat the process with every power level until desired power level is achieved. I'm not sure why I couldn't just put it in level 5 and let it learn.
