Has anyone actually monitored their mileage to see how long it takes for the CHANGE OIL SOON Or CHANGE FUEL FILTER messages to appear?
GM says "up to 10,000 miles" on the oil change, but I'm interested in actual results. I know that your useage will effect mileage, mine's mostly short trips.

I changed oil and filter today with about 5,000 miles on the oil (rotella). It was dark like I expected, but when I gave it the "fingertip test" it felt pretty-much like the new oil. (Very scientific:rolleyes: ).

Thanks, Ed

i just change mine oil every 10,000 (amsoil) and i also change the fuel filter also at that time. so far it seams to be working good for me. i have neaver seen the change fuel filter sign in the dash.

Mine lit up a few miles past 10K. I had just changed the oil filter. I run a bypass filter, and plan to change the oil only when oil analysis tells me to.

Mine still hasn't lit up yet at 8,400 miles. I've already changed the oil twice though at 2,000 miles and again at 5,000. I think it is reading in the teens now for percentage of oil life left.

Last change, mine was at 37% oil life left with 5634 miles since the last change. I'm not confident enough with the oil life system to go over 6000 miles. I may be wasting money and time with too frequent of changes, but I do have piece of mind that it is completed. My next oil change will include oil analysis. The main thing I will look at with the analysis is wear metals of course, but I really want to see the soot consentration and the oil cleanliness levels. In the heavy equipment diesels, the oil is never the problem, soot and contamination drive most if not all problems and oil changes that I have seen.

:ro) I have 12% left on mine and only change it every 8-10k. Change Oil light has never come on and oil is black but a screwdriver still slips from my fingers. I have gotten down to 2% on a previous oil change and the light never came on. I believe it is mileage specific...Jim
