I get my new D-Max Fri., should I run Stanadyne all the time, or just in the winter?

Thanks AJ

Its probably going to be a subjective decision since I doubt anyone can guarantee specific benifits for you. It should help because: Most additives boost cetane which may increase MPG which may help pay for the cost of the additive. The additive improves lubricity which should prolong injectors & pump. Stanadyne is also a demusifier which MAY keep the water where it ain't supposed to be. So it should help, but there is no guarantee that if you use an additive the truck will run to 400K. I have not had a problem with water, and use an additive for two reasons, anti-gel and lubricity.

I run an additive all the time because its cheap enough. With the price of diesel at $2 a gallon the cost of the additive is a small percentage of the total fuel cost. But more important than the additive is to fill up at stations where there is clean high quality fuel.

Plus Stanadyne makes diffrent formula's. One for winter which has anti-gel stuff in it, and the same formula minus the anti-gel for the summer which is cheaper.

I've been running it since the first tank. Stanadyne Performance, 4 oz per fill up (roughly 14-17 gal). 90+ California days and <20 degree Tahoe winters.

I just started using stanadyne world formula. I have a litle over 10,000 miles on my truck. The DMax definitely runs smoother, quieter, and seems to be a little stronger. Maybe it is a combination of break-in and the stanadyne. Like stated above, the cost is minimal and I will continue to use the product.

it all depends on you. if you don't mind, if it should happen, bad fuel, waxing of filters and maybe the disappointment of when a truck acts up, then don't use any additives. to minimize the damage of water getting to the injectors and possible injector damage from cantaminates in your fuel system, then us it or racor as they are recommended by GM.
the one time i didn't use it is when i got bad fuel, won't happen to me again. i use it all the time. the junior formula (red bottle), for summer and no gelling issues, seems to do better as far as mileage. but for the winter, use the performance formula (blue bottle). and for those in the really frozen places, there is the winter 1000 (green bottle), just saw one of those at the local dealer, which he received by accident.

it's not worth my time to have my truck go down.

you can search on your state to see any local dealers. you may be able to get it cheaper on the web from some of the web distributers on several diesel pages. just search for stanadyne.

I use the PS additive! Its just as good and 1/2 the cost of stanadyne you can also buy it at any napa! Every tank full here! Cheap insurance! My friend is a GM engineer and he actully recomends the ps additive!

My preference is FPPF Total Power. Primrose would be my second choice followed by Stanadyne blue. Power Service will in no way ever be added to my tank.

If you ever discuss additives, I'd suggest only admitting to using Stanadyne. It will get you an immediate "wave through" by the service dept.

NOW, something interesting here. In discussions of rough idling particularly on the LLY Dmax, GM is recommending a lubricity additive especially in those areas with poor fuel quality. Quite interesting as I've always been an advocate of this in EVERY gallon of fuel used.

I used Stanadyne, then when I switched to PS, the truck ran smoother. Ran the truck clear across country on it, towing my 30' 10K lb. boat, doing 70-75 almost all the time, in 10-50 degree outside temps, ave fuel economy: 10MPG. Ran like a champ. Don't know why PS is considered BS.

I've had great luck with Power Service in ALL of my Diesels!

I use Stanadyne all winter long and occasionally (when towing) other times.
