Guys,

Ive just purchased a 08 silverado 2500HD. Ive never owned a diesel before so im wonder what i need to do fluid wise. I now have about 1500 miles on it. I live in st. louis and the temps right now are about 20-40 day to day. I have not used any additives. Does the ultra low sulpher diesel gell the same? Do the local stations put additives in? Is it okay to put additives in during the breakin?

thanks for the help!

I would recommend taking a gander at the stickies at the top of this section. There's about 7000 new additive questions popping up daily. We've put together sticky threads for quick and easy viewing. You may be surprised at what you read.

Don't worry Mike. For every newby that posts a question that agravates one guy, there are 10 others that don't mind. The additive issue IS a bit overworked though... Every one of us has asked some obvious (and overworked) questions when we were new. Welcome to the DP!

No offense Nick

You guys are right. My bad for sounding like an ass. Just everything here is so repetitive here.

GM recommends Stanadyne. I use it in every tank. I would say the most popular used by people here are Power Services and Stanadyne.

I mix Power Service and 2 stroke oil.

4 hours in 2 days...you could still walk away clean. If I stopped now, I'd have the DT's so bad I could thread a sewing machine with it runnin':D!

Welcome Mike. I use Stanadyne, as you've probable "read" is popular, but like any consumer product, everybody has their preference and opinion. As you're a "newbie" it would be beneficial for you to read some more of the stickies at the top of the various forums, also use the search function. I got 475 threads searching, "fuel additives." Yes, there's alot of guys willing to help, but try a little self help first. ;)

Thanks guys, i was just a bit confused as some of the articles you guys have as stickys point to different engine models. From my reading the LMM was a bit of a new breed. I wanted to verify all the things you guys are talking about still hold true.

Im going to look for a local dealer for the stanadyne.

If you can't find local, check with the Vendors here. You can get some pretty good deals.
