Hey Everyone,<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Come Friday I will be adding a '94 GMC Yukon 6.5TD to the stable. I am very excited. After my dubious introduction to the 6.5TD with my ’95 Burb, I thought I would never own another GM ever again. Now I own 2. Who would of guessed?

Why? You were the biggest anti-6.5 guy on all the 6.5 websites just a short time ago. What gives?

His burb's running good and the price on these trucks is low. Once you've been through the usual repairs on this engine you know more than the average guy about GM diesels and what they're worth.

PS the '94 and up motor homes with the 6.5L have a worse rep than the trucks. That just drops the price.

QM hit the nail on the head. Once you understand the limitations of these engines, and how to fix them, they become a great deal.

Juancho,

How long were you in the market for one of these trucks before you found one?

I was a virgin to the 6.5TD, when I bought my Burb. I literally knew nothing about them or their sorted past. It was quite a shock when I found out first hand what some of the drawbacks to this engine are, like both head gaskets blown, 4 weeks after I bought the rig.

I wanted a 6.5 burb, 1995 or newer, for under $8000. 6.5 Burbs are rare around here (I don't know of anyone else around here that has one, nor do I recall seeing more than one other one since I've gotten mine over 1.5 years ago). If I was lucky enough to find one, they were asking 50% more than I wanted to spend. So I had pretty well resigned myself to the fact that I'd probably never find one.

Then one day my buddy bought a Car & Truck Trader mag on our way home from a fishing trip, and wouldn't you know it.... he found a 95 6.5 Burb for $7900 in a town only 35 miles from home! Then next day the wife and I went to go look at it. On the way there the wife told me that if I wanted it, I could get it as long as I'd sell Old Blue http://image04.webshots.com/4/4/88/23/72548823UoYmZl_ph.jpg (I was sad to see her go). The only other diesel I had ever driven in my life was either a 5.7 or a 6.2 in a mid-80's Caprice, so I was extremely impressed with the 6.5TD's giddie-up, and I couldn't pass it up. I took it home that night.

It keeps me busy, but I enjoy wrenching on my trucks.

That's the long answer to your question. The short answer is "off and on for a year or so", but I think I was lucky in finding one that quickly around here. But if you're in the market for a 6.5 pickup around here, there's plenty to choose from.

Wow and I was hesitant to get this 97 Burb for $4000. Hmmmm http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/hihi.gif

My '95 Loaded Burb was $7,800. I thought that was a good price, until I dumped another $2000 in parts into her.
