So I was wondering when the tranny goes into limp mode, when does it usually occur? Does it occur while going into a specific gear or will it occur right from the get go? Just wondering cause I have a Predator but have never attempted the 120hp tune cause I don't have the ability to clear out a Tranny code and didn't want it stuck in there. I know the 120 tune would put me at the ragged edge of tripping limp mode, but i'm wondering if I can get away with it being that i'm at 5300ft in altitued. Know i'm not making sea level power which would send me limping for sure. Was just curious. And one more thing, would a heavier truck be more prone to limp with the higher hp tunes, like a regular cab lb dmax vs. a crew cab lb dulley dmax? Thanks in advance.

Limp mode occurs at the 4-5 shift. Gears 1-4 can withstand 900tq, while 5 can only handle about 680tq.

Thanks for the info. So are 1-3 used out of overdrive and 4-5 while in overdrive? Assuming you'd never limp as long as you were out of overdrive but I would imagine you'd run out of gears pretty quick that way, especially with a 125 tune.

I limped mine on a 5-4 down shift. Cruise was set at 70 climbing a hill, nailed it and just before it down shifted it limped.
Luckily I was alone so I just have to live with the fact that some guy in a Grand-am thinks he beat me up the hill.

Sooo do you think my lly can handle the 100hp setting if I ease up for the 4/5 shift? I know that is a loaded question, but trying to learn. I'm running the 85hp on predator now and haven't limped it. This would be for around town empty without prolonged WOT.
I can't get the grin off my face driving this thing. I'm always trying to find reasons to go drive it. My wife is wondering why my tires are not wearing well. Damn cheap stock tires.

You'll be ok with the 100hp setting - just let up when it shifts INTO 4th. If you wait too long when IN 4th, you may still limp it-even before it shifts into 5th.

Ohhhh....so I can run the 120hp setting on my Dmax if I turn o/d off? Or no?...Its soooo tempting to try that 120hp setting...but not having tranny done doesn't help...also considering i limped it w./ the 85hp setting..but i was driving her like a rapped ape...

Once you limp it, is it reset by restarting the truck or does it take more than that??

Yes
The ses light will stay on for a couple of ignition cycles then go off. The codes will stay in the TCM/PCM for ??? a while. If the Predator would Check and clear TCM codes you could clear them, But it doesn't. TECH II, Quad or some others will.
