: Truck did something odd. What is "bursting"?

Last night I was driving my truck and I nailed it.

The power came on in pulses about 1/2 second apart.

The turbo howl went WEEEweeeWEEEweeeWEEEweee.

The symptoms reduce themselves when I switch to T/H.

Any thoughts? I tried to datalog with the Predator but the sampling rate on it wasn't high enough.

Could I have the first signs of turbo trouble?

Bursting feels like someone shut off the fuel and turned it back on again.

How many miles on your fuel filter?

About 1,500 max on the filter.

It certainly is reducing power, but it is very cyclic. It feels like when you climb a bumpy sand dune is the best way to describe it. The engine loads and unloads.

Pat u may be at the point u need to put on a booster pump, I see your new sig line and assume u were running the 'race' tune.

Wasn't a problem w/ the ghetto nos horn button

Others have had trouble stacking juice w/ predator and get the shakes/burst when trying to run the stack full power.

Get someone w/ a tech II to check it while running.

I'd say for certain it's a burst. Doubt a pump will help.Funny thing ,that FRPCV

I need to do more experiments. There was only an 1/8th of a tank in the truck, and that might have been the cause. All better today. Would like to datalog it to see what REALLY was happening.

DOH!!!

It was the fuel filter. It was only 4 weeks old, but after I replaced it, the problem disappeared.

Hey Pat, I've had that happen a few times to me. Except I was fourwheel-in up a hill that was very bouncy. I was low on fuel and think the angle of the hill and the low fuel gave me air pockets. There was one point the engine actually shut off on me. I had roll the truck backwards down the hill, level it out, and prime the fuel filter just to get it to started. Greg:ro)

The pusher pump filter on my cummins does that alot. It'll be running fine, then a couple of shorts, all of a sudden the truck stops running. I've learned to carry extra filters.:o

Pat,

Did you change the filter and fill up or just one then the other?

First I filled up, and it got better, but was still there. Tried various tuners and got either 1093's or surging.

Then I replaced the filter and everything is hunky dorry.

Well time to see if LACR dried out. Testntune from 2-6.

Keep her above 1/2 full in racing conditions for best fuel delivery.

Sometimes when I have predator on 85, and especially 100, when it shifts to the next gear it feels (as I'd describe) to studder a little. Kinda like riding the school bus when you were a kid and the buses had manual trannies.... when they'd shift up they would studder a few times and then smooth out and run. Am I experiencing BURST? Or when you see the ProStock Cummins start to wind up at the start of a pull.... watch the smoke and listen to them, they're intermittent and then smooth out and run. That's what my truck feels like except it does it when it shifts gears.

I would have to say RPM over limit w/ defuel. If you are throwing any serious power at the tranny it will spool up to quick and miss the shift point and throw a late shift. T/H mode helps, Copilot helps eliminate if you set it correctly. The surging you feel is dropping back to norm then overlimit again right up to the point where it shifts or you let off and then it shifts.
