: edge attitude question
LB7UP 01-25-2005, 10:40 AM I have read the you can set a threshold or a max egt setting on the edge to prevent form overheating your turbo. I think it cuts fuel when it senses to high of an egt. Would it retard the timing or cut ignition as well? i cant see cutting the fuel only to be to healthy for the engine. Wouldnt this cause it to run lean> Detonation? that is bad news on anycar and for a turbo or charged engine, almost certain death right? i am sure they thought of it, i guess i am tring to get down to the point of just how the edge works. I am in the middle of deciding which box i want to run on my 2003 lb7.
please advise
Thanks!
WS6Clint 01-25-2005, 10:45 AM IIRC it only pulls fuel. Diesels are different from gas burners, You can't run them too lean(or so they say). The power in a diesel comes from the fuel addition, where as in a gas motor it comes from the addition of air.
Gas motor
Lean=hot
Rich=safe
Diesel
Lean=cool
Rich=hot
john@dps 01-26-2005, 09:25 AM The juice only defuels the extra fuel that it has added. Meaning what ever level you are in, it defuels back to stock form. It doesn't defuel the oem engine parameters below oem specs. When the box backs off you are running stock again. The egt's drop because the truck has returned to oem fueling levels. John
LB7UP 01-26-2005, 10:16 AM thanks alot guys, I am having a hard time deciding which power box to run, I like the edge attitude combo, also have read about the predator and the hotxcelerator... i am lost....... cant decide
Jonathan G 01-26-2005, 06:27 PM :ro) I would surely go with Edge Juice and Attitude because of the cool digital display and on the fly power settings. Best of all, it comes with the ability to defuel during all locked shifts which reduces wear on your tranny. Edge also senses tranny slippage and will automaticaly reduce power before damage is done.

RickDLance 01-26-2005, 06:37 PM Edge seams to catch it pretty quick, but anytime you overpower the Allison the damage is done, and gets worse each time. I think it is one of the best mods for a LB7!
Got Juice? 01-26-2005, 06:48 PM Gas engines running lean= HIGH EGT's and DAMAGE/Knock
Gas engines running rich <14.2 stoich = lower EGT's and safe
Diesel engines run on knock. But, overfuelling a diesel causes high EGT's which is the opposite effect that a gas burner has with over fuel
Diesel's need more air both vol and pressure to control EGT's and this comes from the turbo. Which is why we are so hot to trot on the current up and coming developments. It is almost impossible to over air a diesel, as a turbine will only spool if there is enough heat energy and ex flow to spin the turbine (up to a point.) Stock turbos wrok reasonably well for a stock fuelled truck.... more fuel.... and we start to run out of air, make black smoke and high egt's
fireresource 01-26-2005, 10:35 PM i just installed my juice / attitude about 2 weeks ago. it is the best upgrade i have done...i like being able to change power levels on the fly, as well as being able to choose what info i want to monitor on the attitude display. all the added "protection" that edge adds to their products really helps as well.
HD-Nate 01-27-2005, 11:11 AM Go with Edge.
You get all your gauges you need in one neat package.
On the fly level changes
Defuel options
Tranny lock options
1/4 mile timer
0-60 timer
Tire size/speedo correction, (on the quage)
I nailed it on an entrance ramp going to work this AM, level 5, black smoke everywhere ):h . 3 or 4 truck drivers seen me get on it and were going nuts.
"Holy Sh** did you see that Chevy fly" (yes its actually a GMC), "Damn that thing was screeming".
Talked to them on the CB for about 1/2 hour on the way in. They wanted me to slow down so they could get a look at it. They couldnt believe it.
Once your truck learns how to handle the new power, you will never go back.
Rich H. 01-27-2005, 11:56 AM Edge,
How much work is it to remove incase the truck needs to go in for work at the dealer?
RickDLance 01-27-2005, 12:24 PM Just the Edge box will unplug in a mater of minutes. If you have the Attitude also It will take a little more time. If you install it completely you will also have an EGT probe that you can't hide.
Jonathan G 01-27-2005, 04:22 PM All you have to do is unplug the edge box and attitude monitor and it all comes right out. Should take you about 15 min. tops. The only thing left in the truck is the egt probe which could be easily played off as being in the process of installing a pyrometer.
