Has anyone ever smelled raw fuel when their truck was sitting at idle? Last week I was sitting at a stop light and smelled raw fuel (not exhaust). The truck was warmed up, tank was about 1/2 full, and outside temp was around 60 degrees.

The odor only lasted for about 30 seconds and then faded away. This is the second time it's happened and I can't seem to find anyone with an answer.

My truck is an 2004.5 LLY with about 59K. I have Diablo Predator set on second setting (30hp), MBRP Cat-back, and high flow filter. I checked for error codes and had nothing show up. I have however, had a fuel rail pressure too high error code in the past. I'm wondering if the rail pressure is fluctuating and causing too much fuel to be dumped. Seems the truck would bog when that occurred, though.

I didn't notice any performance change in the truck when I smelled the fuel and each time it was only brief. Any ideas????

I know when i had my rail valve installed if the pressure got to high it would leak fuel out a little bit. I smelled fuel from time to time, but now it's tightened up and doesn't leak so no smell now. I'm thinking if you had a high rail pressure code then your stock valve popped open and fuel would sit on top of the motor. It would be on the rail on the driver side too, so you can either shim it or buy a race valve and no more popping open.

I had this same issue with my truck right after I bought it in December. I noticed it while driving, not just sitting at stop lights. I changed the fuel filter and haven't noticed it since. I suppose there was a small leak with the old fuel filter and I got rid of it by changing it out.

Mine has always smelled like this in the winter, but never in the summer. Got no clue where it comes from?

That may be the issue. Like I said, I did have an error code in the past that advised my rail pressure was too high. I also had a fuel pressure regulator code. Next time it occurs I may check the motor compartment and see if theres a leak anywhere. If not, I may (and I hate to say this) take it by teh dealership. Thanks for the tips.

I've had this problem several times over the last few months. Each time it was a bad/leaking injector. The #7, #2 and #6 injectors have been replaced on my truck so far.
