We just bought the trailer in the sig. I still have the hitch from my previous trailer but no bars. The hitch is a Eaz-Lift V5. I can get a set of bars and latches for free but the bars have no marking to indicate how much weight they can handle. I have not weighed the trailer but the sticker shows 6200 empty,GVW of 9600. Is there anyway to tell how much these bars can handle? If I use them and they are not enough, what will the symptoms be?? I hope I am making sense, if not, tell me and I will try again.

If the bars fit on the hitch, they will be fine. The lightest are Class III (up to 10,000 lbs), which is plenty for your trailer.

I’m not familiar with the Eaz Lift hitches, though I understand they are similar to Reese WD hitches. 1,000lbs bars should be plenty. You should be able to obtain set up instructions from the mfr website or the always helpful members of Rv.net. You will know whether your bars are stout enough if after setting up according to instructions the trailer is still not level (or slightly nose down) and there isn't much adjustment left. That condition will only get worse when you load up. Look into the feasibility of fitting a Reese Dual Cam sway control to your hitch while you’re at it. With that length of trailer, positive sway control should be a high priority and I understand that the Dual Cam either works on Eaz-Lifts or can be adapted without much effort. Owners report very high satisfaction with this form of sway control. If you find yourself inclined to scrap your current hitch entirely in favor of a new one, give strong consideration to an Equal-i-zer brand hitch. Starting from scratch the Equal-i-zer is slightly less expensive than the Reese Strait-Line or Dual Cam combo. It is an extremely effective hitch at a very reasonable price. The Cadillac hitches are the Hensley Arrow and the Pullrite. These are expensive, but worth it if your rig is inherently unstable. By the way a friend from here and of the Diesel Place is visiting relatives in Boerne even as we speak. Small world.

Well as luck would have it, the guy I sold the trailer to sold it but kept the bars and saddles!! Looks like I can get them back. As for sway control, these bars are flat so I don't know if a dual cam will work with them. Will have to check on that.

TSCKEY, I sent you a PM, and yes, it is a small world.
