Max Power 01-24-2005, 10:27 PM What did you scrape it with a diamond ring?
I have to agree with Tony, not much else you can do.
I can't say I have ever scratched a window.
Coles_D/A 01-24-2005, 10:43 PM SO what should I do??

GMC-2002-Dmax 01-25-2005, 12:44 AM The windows in every car or truck I own get scratched..........part of living in a snowy area that uses lots of sand and salt..........
I avoid rolling my windows down but the sand gets in between the window wipe at the door and the glass................scratching it...........
The windshield is soft..........I have a sandblasted look and am due for a new one in the spring as I have a chip anyway.........
The ice scrapers seem to scratch the new glass alot easier than the old glass.......
Good Luck, if you can feel it with a fingernail and it catches your nail, it's too deep to remove..........:(
SnowDrift 01-25-2005, 09:58 AM I have never tried it for myself, but have heard of using "Brass-o" for scratched windshields. Hopefully that will help.
There is also another product on the market that a professional will use where they use this compound of some sort and buff the glass with it. They're trained pretty well so that they don't end up with wavy spots in the glass. Try a google search for "glass scratch remover." It's not cheap, but probably cheaper and better idea than replacing the glass.

Dmax Tim 01-25-2005, 10:30 AM Sure cure for the scratches.
A nice 'rock' chip in the vision area and call the insurance and have the new one installed.
JMPDMax 01-25-2005, 10:51 AM Jeweler polish.
Leadfoot 01-25-2005, 02:17 PM A body man on another forum I belong to, says he wet sands and buffs scratches out. I have never tried it myself, so I cannot confirm/deny that this works, although it seems logical....

olskool53 01-25-2005, 03:32 PM I have been useing a Product sold by Eastwood, on All my trucks and Hot Rods. It comes with a special buffing wheel and compound, I think it's about $45 bucks? It works good and they sell several compounds for deeper scraches. Just make sure when you do it that your window is atleast 72F any colder you will shatter the glass!
ShumDit 01-25-2005, 09:27 PM While its hindsight at this point but qualifies as FWIW dept ~ something I learned while living off Base in Japan ~ They come out in the winter mornings w/a towel saturated in hot water ~ none used scrappers that I seen ~ just us gaijins. I do likewise now but depending on temperature, I use lukewarm water I slosh out of a gallon milk bottle (hot water may cause existing cracks to run/spread). Haven't had a scrapper in over 30yrs.

Agreed
Nothing like a fresh windshield, makes you think you bought a new vehicle. Find a quality installer with OEM glass with a lock solid guaranty.
I had mine done last summer.
GMC2500HD 01-26-2005, 02:47 PM You should be able to go to a local tint or window shop and they have a compound that will fill in the scratches. Looks gray when it comes out of the tube and then will dry clear when buffed on to the window. Not sure what it is called. Good luck
lccent 01-28-2005, 04:20 PM I have been using a lot of detailing products from these guys and have been really impressed with them. Havent tried there glass polishing products but might help you can even call and ask them.):h

blackmax04 01-28-2005, 04:42 PM I have used alot of products from them also. Love the porter cable buffer, the pads, and the Menzerna products. But, was not impressed with the Autoglym glass polishing kit. I could not tell much of a difference in clarity so I doubt it will do much for scratches imho.:)
