Hello all.
I am new to this forum, have been over on one of the others for a while and ran across this one. I think i like it better since there is actually a section for the zf6.
My question is, I have a 2006 that every time I get above 15 mph, the doors lock, and they don't unluck unless I turn the pickup off and pull the key out, or if I hit the unlock switch. Is there some way to keep the doors from locking automatically? It is very annoying, and a pain when I don't shut the pickup off a lot of the time to get out. My brother's 05 is the same way. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Ryan

There is on the pre 03's. Not sure on 03 up. My 01 ZF doesn't but my 03 ZF does .

the 02 my brother had never locked either. I was wondering if maybe through EFI live? No one at any of the dealerships I have talked to has been much help. I have also talked to a couple different performance shops without any luck.

On my '03, you can change that option on the DIC. You have to go through driver settings. It's the button on the bottom of the wheel on the right hand side. It's in with the options like the timer for the light after you get out of the truck and such. Hope this helps.

I should also mention, neither my pickup nor my brother's has the steering wheel controls. Our options are controlled with the foot pedals, but there is no option listed in the manual for us to shut the locking option off with the zf6.

Ah I see. That would definitely put a damper on using the steering wheel controls to turn off the lock option. Well, I'm out of advice. Good luck.

press the unlock button before you get out. your hand is over there to open the door handle anyway. i do the same thing with my '05. it's annoying at first, but now it comes naturally.

It is annoying as hell here on the farm too! Especially if you have to stop and get out quick while trying to grab a rifle or something too!! Usually gets a few choice words every time! Somehow, there's got to be a way............Too bad the doors don't unlock when you pull on the handle like my Pete does!

Exactly, just as the coyote stops you're fighting the **** lock .

my 06 has steering wheel controls and you cant turn off auto locking you can make it unlock in park but that doesnt help on the zf

ill look in my 02 and 04 manuals and find the process for turning them off with the key switch and the lock buttons. maybe it will work on the newer ones too. i had to do it on my 02 but i dont remember it exactly have to look someone had already done me the favor on my 04

ps the the gap between the mirror head and the door frame make a very stable rest no need to open the door to shoot just dont get caught on the road doing it. dont ask me how i know.

i think that would only work if you're left-eye dominant.

That works all good and fine as long as the coyote stays to the left. If they jump the road or whatever and head to the right, you have to jump out and shoot across the toolbox or hood! Them rabbits can be tricky too!

if they jump the road put it to the wood and use the front wheels to take him out

Sorry it's not an ECM function, so it's not something you can do with EFILive.

Cheers

So it is something that a dealership should be able to program? Do we have anyone that works at a dealership can shed some light?

I looked in mine and the only thing listed you can do is change how the doors unlock.

This is on a 2005, so maybe what you guys find on the 02,04 will work?

I got used to mine, but (like everything else) I would rather have the choice to make it happen or not.

One option is to get in the habit of hitting the "unlock" after it auto-locks. If you leave your truck running alot, jumpin in and out, that should work ok.

i've had my '07.5 for 5 months now, and i'm still not used to it and like some of you i too would love to know what i need to do in order to turn the automatic locks off completely. i have it set so that when i put it in park they unlock, but when i have a passenger and i am dropping them off without getting out myself, i always have to remember to unlock the door...because then there is that awkward minute there where neither party knows what the hell's goin on...

on a similar automatic electrical crap note...i love the fact that gm did not make their seatbelt bell as annoying or as persistant as the bells on the fords. i rarely wear my seatbelt (although i should), and it would drive me nuts if the alarm would sound like and go off as much as the alarms on the fords. just a positive note toward gm.

i tried the process described in my 02 and 04 owners manual in my 06 and no joy might try the dealer see if the tech 2 can disable them my buddies 99 manual says see the dealer to change the function.
