Hi, new member here with a very big headache. Firstly I would like to congratulate you all for this informative and helpful site. Now for the headache, I have a Marine 6.5L Turbo charged and intercooled which recently due to lack of lubrication because of an oil pipe blockage, damaged the crankshaft and 2 connecting rods beyond repair. As I live overseas, and locally there are no parts available for these engines, I would like some advice of whether it is feasable to buy a new crank, connecting rods, bearings set and piston ring set, or else buy a short engine from the USA. Either way I will also need a set of head gaskets, is there anyway of how I can know which head gaskets I need for my engine, no on engine block are, stamped on top edge at front of engine, 6YBD3 01, than at rear on top of flywheel casting 10237141 L035, the pistons are GM 10236527 (any idea what comp these pistons ? ), the bore is 103 mm dia.
Is there anyway of installing an early warning system, even perhaps with engine shut down inorder to prevent this situation. All the damage occured in a few minutes while the oil pressure guage was still reading 20 psi, I was thinking about placing the oil sending unit at the front of the engine where the harm was done rather than at the back where it is close to the oil pump.
I would be greatful if you can suggest a reliable supplier for these items.
Appriciate any help you can give me and thank you.
Regards Edward:confused:

I feel the OPS is a real problem. My engine will run 2 minutes at idle with no oil pressure. The engine seems to run until all diesel has been used in the IP. This means to me my engine will fry before shutdown occurs.
As far as parts, ROCKAUTO.COM is your best bet for new parts. Cranks are hard to come-by cheaply, but are available from Autozone (rebuilt)( if you can get them to ship overseas) for about $300, warranty good until installed ( ha).

Get a HO oil pump and a new crank and master kit to put it together. There's also a 12v pre oiler that bring the oil psi up to 40 before the engine starts.

search for the industrial n/a 6.5L for more parts

search for peninsular diesel for marine parts.

Thanks for your suggestions. I have contacted the people you mentioned and yes they will supply me with the parts I need. Hrjack , I would have thought that the shutdown system would be connected in serious with the IP switchoff solenoid so the engine should stop instantly when autoshutdown comes on just like you switched off the ignition switch, that`s at least what I am hoping will happen if i install the system and engine loses oil press or overheats.

Yes, the OPS is connected to the IP cutoff switch, but, that means you have to burn the diesel in the IP, and mine will run 2 minutes at idle with just the IP fuel. See the problem?

Hey QM, where would you get the preoiler. I've only found the spring loaded one that AMSOIL makes.

There's also a 12v pre oiler that bring the oil psi up to 40 before the engine starts. Thanks for your time,

John

Turbo could be damaged also from all the metal in the oil.

Thanks for your time,

JohnI couldn't say where to find it exactly
I read about it on the page and thought it was a good idea. It's wired to come on with the glows and the needle on the oil guage was reported to touch 40 psi before the cycle was finished.

That would be a very cool thing! I hate the idea of dry starts. Let me know if you find out where to get one. I am going to try to locate it too.
