I fueled up a few minutes ago and when I restarted the truck the Service 4X4 message appeared and I did'nt have any lights on the selector buttons.
Started checking fuses and found the 15A fuse. Started engine to check the fuse and now its working again.

Is this something I need to have the dealer check into or just not worry about it?

I changed all fluids, fnt diff, trans case, rear diff at about 25000 miles and now have 51000.

I use 4 wheel drive a couple of times a week.

There are several bulletins that have to do with a 4wd message. You would need to get the codes read to see what applies. It could be as simple as a reprogram or it could be an encoder motor sensor.

Usually when you get the "Service 4x4" message and no selector switch lights, you have a condition where the 4x4 module did not "wake up" at key on. There is an updated program for this.

I have a good relationship with my service manager and writer.
I'm going in the woods tomorrow until sunday, I'll call when I get back. They don't seem to mind when I tell them what I've learned here. They actually seem to appreciate it.
It seems to be working for the moment. I hope it holds out until then.

hope its not the encoder sensor down below . mine went after a few trips to the stealer.for the same lite....was on 4th of july weekend of course..was pullin up the hiway at 65 and the 4wd kiks in....my poor wife happenned to be sitting aside me when i blew up also..later, bc

Do a search on this topic and you will see many post. Mine did this quite often when it was still under warranty. If you drive with "SERVICE 4WD" for a long stretch, it will set other codes and try to put you in limp mode. Seven times mine was in the shop for this.
