Curious newbie would like to know what people running modded engines are running for longevity/protection.

I have heard that some Cummins owners who have bombed them, are running o-ringed heads and upgraded fasteners/gaskets.

Just wondering as some guys here are running much higher than stock boost (now twin turbos) what they are doing, have had to do, or planning to do as far as engine mods (I know air intake and exhaust mods have been performed, but what else if any)? Or are they able to do this on stock motors?

TIA

Chris

head studs with the stock head gaskets are cheap insurance but I haven't found them necessary yet...

a few from ats are running over 50lbs of boost, and no problems the last time we spoke

50lbs is a common threshold.

I don't think the DMax will fair better than the rest above that. It's basic physics. The heads and gaskets can only handle so much cylinder pressure before something moves. Either the headbolts will stretch or something will flex just enough for a leak to start. Once a leak starts it's done.

I read in a porsche excellence magazine about this 911 that was running ridiculous amounts of boost and they were talking about how the head bolts stretch so much they didn't run a headgasket on the engine. I guess the heads just floated on the block and somehow it doesn't blow up.
