: Orange County OC CA Diesel Mechanic Tech
Now that Sodcaldieseltech is moving out, does anyone know of any other Chevy dealer deisel tech mechanics in the Orange County CA area?
Just beginning to experience very hard starting - still no diesel in the oil...
33,000 miles.
Busboy4u 01-25-2005, 01:12 PM Classic Chevy in Anaheim is where I take my truck. They have been very good to me. Talk to Bill Villigan in service. He is my service advisor.
BiteMe 01-25-2005, 05:23 PM I second BusBoys recommendation.
I just recently had my truck at Classic. They serviced it and replaced the glowplugs (under warranty). Everybody was very nice and I haven't had any issues since I picked it up.
I'll definately be going back.
OC_DMAX 01-25-2005, 11:10 PM The last time I was at Classic Chev, I asked the service writer how many injectors they had replaced. His answer was " a couple ". While Classic has always done a good job in servicing my 2000 Chev truck and now my 2002 Chev DMAX, I think I would ask a few more questions about their "injector experiences'" before allowing them to perform this task on my truck. Maybe they have a good diesel tech there (?), I would just inquire first before dropping it off.
I would "PM" SoCalDieselTech and see if he is indeed still at Nicholas. If he is not, maybe ask him for a recommendation. The other option is to look for a Chevrolet "Commercial Truck" dealership. These types of dealerships are more likely to have a full-time diesel tech.
Let us know what happens.
Left my truck with socaldiesel tech today and was issued a rental car.
It's the injectors but ironically I feel relieved. Like finally getting a bad tooth extracted.
Both socaldiesel tech and the Service Writer were great and showed a lot of interest and let me observe the diagnosis.
I left there with a rental feeling my truck could not be in better hands.
Can't wait to see how the truck performs with the new injectors - and new lease on it's service life.
Bodysurfer 01-26-2005, 10:42 AM Classic has been my service spot and also the place I bought my rig. Even though I live closer to Power Chevy in Corona off Sarfas Club, I take it to Classic. Never really had any problems with my rig but I have them due the routine maint. service on it. But my speedo is jacked up now so will see what happens when I take it in and how they treat me.
LATER!
diesel man 01-26-2005, 11:49 AM i believe socaldieseltech is still at the dealership until further notice . pm him he will tell ya
Mark_my_word 01-26-2005, 04:52 PM Be careful at Classic. I bought my truck there. I went there once for warranty service and won't go back. The truck was new and I thought it was knocking. They had the truck a week and a half. Over that week and a half they gave me three different explanations of the cause of the problem. They ended up replacing the EGR valve acutator and tried to tell me that fixed the problem.
Turns out what I was hearing was normal. Its just that this is my first diesel and I was not sure if what I was hearing was normal or not. I even told the service writer that.
There may be good service writers and diesel techs there but it was pretty apparent from my visit that the people I dealt with didn't know what they were doing. I wouldn't go back.
I think Socal dieseltech will still be at the dealership until his business builds up. Sorry to see him leave if I have warranty issues but happy to see him go so I can have him do mods.
1/25/05, mid-afternoon, I brought my truck to socaldiesel and got it back today 1/28/05, early afternoon, eight injectors replaced.
I watched socaldiesel work tearing down and replacing the passenger side injectors. There did not appear tobe a single wasted motion - very quick - he knew exactly what moves to make. Bang, bang, bang.
socaldiesel showed me how the new injectors' little ball was seated more deeply than in the 2003 injectors being replaced. And he showed me where the injectors would crack just under where the ball was seated. Hopefully these mods, plus my Nictane filtration, will keep the new ones from cracking and from ball seat erosion.
The engine runs noticeably smoother and seems quieter.
socaldiesel is definetly a genuine professional Duramax mechanic.
He'll be getting my business everytime.
socaldieseltech 01-30-2005, 12:08 PM Thanks Mr. X, always good to hear from a pleased customer.
Trippin 01-30-2005, 12:52 PM I had my injectors recently changed by Socaldieseltech, I was impressed with his knowledge, education, experience, and speed with which he completed the job.
He is now my mechanic of choice. :ro)
Other than yours truly. :D

Robgmcman 01-30-2005, 05:32 PM I had some work done by him as well. Top guy on my list. He is not only someone you can trust but he is a wonderful guys to hang out with.
I am said to see him move. But if it is closer to me i will be very happy. I will travel a long ways to have him look at my truck.
Not to lay it on too thick and get romantic or something, but the injector problem I dreaded turned into a very positive experience -an overdue upgrade to my equipment. Like getting a good freebie upgrade to your computer.
socaldieseltech 02-27-2005, 01:06 AM Well I'm no longer at the dealership. If anyone needs warranty work done, I may still be able to help. If you need details, let me know.
BiteMe 02-27-2005, 02:37 AM Good luck SoCal!
Although I'm new to the board, if I need any :help2: -- I'll track you down! :ro)

OC_DMAX 03-03-2005, 09:05 AM SoCalDieselTech,
Our loss for quality diesel warranty work in the OC area is hopefully your gain in a new career path. Any recommendations on dealerships in Orange County where other competent Diesel Techs may be working and that you would trust?
