I really need help on this one. I have a 01' 2500HD / Duramax / Allison / 86K. The truck started surging bad in gear at idle and a little bit in park. I got the dreaded SES and took her to auto-zone for the computer. It came back with 2 codes, gas leak and fuel pressure regulator. Knowing all the troubles form lurking here forever I took her to the dealership. They took a look and decided to replace all 8 injectors, under warranty. I was ammazed that they gave me no hassel no problem. The only issue was the lead time for the injectors, 4-6 weeks.

Well the injectors came in and were replaced. I dont know exactly what happened then. I know what has happened thus far though. They have replaced all 8 injectors, the fuel pressure regulator, the computer, the fuel filter and maybe one other thing. The truck will not even run now. I am being told by the service manager that GM has never seen this and neither has he. Evidently the truck is pushing WELL over 2000 pounds of pressure through the injectors. He said it is dumping huge ammounts of fuel into the engine. They dont know what to do!!!

I am turning to the experts to see if anyone has heard of anyhting like this.

Well I am no expert but I'll give my .02 and bump your thread back to the top. BTW this might be a good post for the TRUCK DOWN section of this forum.

Sounds like you had the normal bugs.....bad injectors and a crappy regulator. GM stepped up and fixed it all for you....way to go GM.....sounds like that is when it all went south.....I'm just guessing here but it almost sounds like something is wrong with the new regulator.......you said that it is pushing 2000 lbs of pressure......actually the common rail can run as high as 20,000 PSI.....granted it doesn't do this at idle........but I imagine it normally sees more than 2000 at idle.

If the dealer thinks it has too much pressure they are either misinformed about the pressure that SHOULD be there or the regulator is FUBAR'ed and allowing too much pressure for the RPM and load.

However, if it doesn't start and there is plenty of pressure it sounds like an injector issue.

Double check that PSI number.....if it has only 2000 PSI maybe it wouldn't start........

See I really was no help........just a stream of consciousness........don't worry there are guys here that actually make sense.

Thank you for the suggestions. I will call them and confirm the numbers. They said it is pushing WAY too much fuel into the engine. It is difficult for me though to talk to them.

I am in Kuwait with the military and the truck is home in Southern AZ. I have to jump through hoops to call them and the connection isnt very good most of the time.

IF the MODS want to move this please do. I only put it in here bc there is more traffic and it is model specific!

Thank you all.

Any Southern AZ guys in here that can wrangle a service department for this guy in uniform?

gypsychology......sounds like it's easier for you to get on the internet than on the phone......that's ok......obviously everyone here gets on the internet.

I dunno.....I'm in NY so I'm not much help.....maybe the MODS will put this post in a high visibility area.....

CALLING DMAXALLITECH!!!!!

C'mon Eric.......whatdaya think?

I have seen brand new fuel pressure regulators that are crap right out of the bag. The regulator is "normally open" (meaning if it were unplugged or open internally, it will allow full fuel flow through it). If it has an open circuit inside of it, it will allow 160MPA rail pressure at idle... which will cause a severe rough idle/stall/loud sumbeatch.

I appreciate all or your input you guys. I will give them a call and ahve them test to see if the Fuel Pressure Regulator is open all the time. It sounds like that would cause the issues I am having.

Maybe DMAXALLITECH will chime in with his expertise.

Hopefully buy the time I get to go home for my break, in April, the shop will ahve it figured out. The service manager has been great. I could have not asked for better. I told him to take his time, figure it out, make it all right and I will get him a nice dinner out for him and his lady. I normally try to take care of the managers and the employees in the shop where I take my vechicles. IT has always worked out well wether it is a little cash, a 12 pack, or a dinner. It has DEFINATELY paid off many times over. Probably my best investment to date.

Thank you all!
