: Too much smoke!!

Okay so I've got 83000 miles on my truck and have had the hypertech set on 3 for about the last 50000. I have always had a little black smoke when I wanted to but it seems to be getting more and more.

I used to have to punch it pretty good to get any black smoke to come out. Now it comes out almost all the time. The exhaust tip gets filthy black after a week. Maybe this is normal for some of you running other tunes but this is just a hypertech and it wasn't doing it before.

I could be way off on this but would it have anything to do with the PCV valve gunking up the intake. I have never done the PCV reroute. I did just put on a true flo air intake but the black smoke was happening before I did that. Any thoughts would be appreciated...

When was the last time you changed your airfilter?

Intercooler boot may have blown off....could be turbo related. Check all your hoses and clamps.

The air filter is fine, I already checked that. I will check hoses and clamps tomorrow.

There is no PCV valve or filter... just two hoses running from your valve covers to a T that dumps into your turbo. You need to reroute this baby... but I seriously doubt this is the cause of your black smoke.

Your EGR might be going bad; do you still make good power, or has that fallen off too? Blocking your EGR is something else you should consider. My truck would roll black smoke when I stomped on it with my Predator tune until I blocked my EGR. Now I get a little smoke, but not near the fog I used to get.

Good luck!

Yeah, it still makes the same power. I need to just figure out how to block the EGR and see if that helps any. I think I will also remove the hypertech programming and see what that does.

Try a fuel addative, sounds like a stuck injector. I have had call after call about smoke at ideal and excessive smoke and I tell people to add an addative to there tank of fuel.
