I just bought truck with cowl induction hood, would there not be more cold air coming in if I open it to engine bay ? or will it disrupt air flow ?

I personally don't know for sure but the consensus I've seen on threads in the past suggest it will disrupt the air flow too much. But, like I said, no first hand knowledge.

What a bout driving under rainy conditions? Should it bring water inside engine bay?

Yeah, I'm kinda wondering of the original question as well :) . Because i want to open it up :)

Would it not at least help extract heat from the engine compartment?

I recently purchased a cowl hood for my truck. I will be doing some testing to see if in fact the underhood temps are lower with it installed.

Please do! I'd love to know.

Personally, I see no gains for having that hood on the truck. I have a 6" cowl on my race car and that is just to clear the carb. I ran the car with and without and the under the hood temp never increased or decreased.

RATDOC ran one on his really lowered his operating temps, besides I think it gives them a better look, but that's me

Years ago, I put a cowl hood on a hot rod I had, and it did help with underhood and motor temps.... I am waiting till budget will cover one and I am putting one on my tyruck too..... Besides, I think they look great too.....

On a drag car I assume?
My first thought is that drag cars likely don't run long enough at a time under load to generate a lot of underhood heat. At least not the kind of heat that towing a trailer through hilly terrain in summer will put under the hood of a turbo charged engine.

A personal experience:
I have a snow plow on my truck. One day late in May a couple of years ago, I was moving my plow from my shop to my dads place, about a 20 minute drive down country roads (55mph-ish). Due to the plow putting huge aerodynamic drag on the truck while blocking the majority of the grill, temps rose pretty high.
I got to my dads place, and left the truck idling to cool while I went in to see my folks. I came out about 10mins later and found that the temp guage really hadn't dropped much at all. I was sort of alarmed, and immediately opened the hood. Within 2 minutes of opening the hood, the temp was back to normal.
This sort of indicated to me that a major part of my 6.5's cooling problem is from a lack of airflow through the rad and engine compartment.
Any thoughts?
