: Painting Grill bowtie???
TnfarmerLLY 03-04-2008, 06:11 PM i started to order a billit one for it, but then thought it would look killer if i painted it white to match the truck, how hard is it to do this??? i guess sand it some, primer, then paint....but what kinda spray paint should i get?? should it be gloss or get plain, then clearcoat it???? thanks
06SIXSPEEDMANUAL 03-04-2008, 06:20 PM It's not too hard, as for paint try Krylon Fusion:cool: It works pretty good on plastic
down4bmx 03-04-2008, 08:26 PM Take it off. Scuff with a red or grey scothbright shoot couple light coats of adhesion promoter and then shoot your base/clear. Very simple and it looks clean...
factorymx 03-04-2008, 08:35 PM i just sanded mine down and gave it about 6 coats and it came out nice
copter 03-04-2008, 08:42 PM SEM adhesion promoter then SEM trim black held up for over a year.. I just blacked out my grill with trim black and did a greystone bowtie..
coldLBZ 03-04-2008, 11:10 PM I'm painting mine tommorow. I already sanded it, will I be ok with grey primer, and then the DupliColor paint? Thanks.
TnfarmerLLY 03-05-2008, 12:07 AM so i'll sand it down, then some adhesion promotor, then what type of spray paint??? just the paint right, no need for a paint, then a seprate clearcoat???
Unit453 03-05-2008, 12:08 AM Mine is silver. Had my whole grill painted to match the truck and figured a silver bowtie would look cool.
copter 03-05-2008, 12:36 AM I likes it!!!

Depends on the overall look you want, most just sand and spray but I would recomend light sanding then adhesion promoter then paint. no clear coat neccessary, but if you want a little shine and extra durability the clear coat won't hurt.
Hammer 4 03-05-2008, 01:13 AM I'm painting mine tommorow. I already sanded it, will I be ok with grey primer, and then the DupliColor paint? Thanks.
Yup..:D Although the Krylon Fusion works really good. Painted mine last june, still looks like new..pic's in my garage.
quadracer37 03-05-2008, 01:42 AM hmm.. wonder if i can find a storm grey to match my '02..?
anyone ever paint their parking/running light lenses..? i've seen a couple trucks with "smoked" style lenses.. not sure if they are aftermarket lenses (i cant seem to find any) or painted..?
factorymx 03-05-2008, 01:45 AM i know alot of people either paint, tint, or buy a smoked out cover
quadracer37 03-05-2008, 01:49 AM any special paint for doing that? do you know were they bought the aftermarket smoked lenses?
factorymx 03-05-2008, 01:58 AM i think lund might make some. i remember looking at some places online, tommorow i will see if i can find out where
rodeo n bodyman 03-05-2008, 09:44 AM i used ppg paint and 2021 clear on mine :) lol but that might cost more than you wanna spend
maybee 03-05-2008, 10:20 AM i sanded mine with 600 grit then 1200 grit. i put a coat or two of primer on it then hit it with 4 coats of rustolium indoor outdoor paint. i am hoping that this stuff is a little strunger and will help prevent chipping but time will tell:rolleyes:
blackduramax07 03-05-2008, 04:08 PM Painted the grill black to match and left the bowtie gold. Wasn't much to it. I think it looks pretty sick w/ the black replacement bumper.

This is how I did it.
coldLBZ 03-06-2008, 11:47 PM Thanks Hammer 4. I ended up sanding mine, then shot it with some grey primer, and then olympic white DupliColor paint. I got my Dad to spray it becasue I wanted it to look good.
