Can anyone with the banks six gun give me a little feedback on how they like it? I know someone thats who's getting an LLY and wants to sell his six gun kit off of his LB7. How well do they work for towing, and mostly of all, are they safe?? I don't want the darn thing if it's going to hurt my engine in anyway. Do they have a de-fueling system in them that "backs" it off when it gets to hot? Any feed back would be great, thanks guys!

I have the LB7/Six Gun and am happy with it, torque curve works great for towing. The Bank literature tells you not to do heavy towing in L5/6 without exhaust and intake mods (need more airflow to keep the EGT's in check). I replaced my muffler and modded the airbox and the truck has been fine.

I sent it back to Banks to get the newer/more agressive programming and the change in accleration is very apparent. The 6-gun interfaces with the TCM to back off power if slippage is detected. If you add the speed loader there is also an interface to an EGT probe that will automatically back off the fuel/timing if EGT's get too high. This is the setup I am running.

Before the software upgrade I used level 4 most of the time (including towing my 7000 lb travel trailer). Since the upgrade I am on level 3 with 4 reserved for "sudden accleration". I have only tried L5 once from a standing start, truck was very fast but seemed like more power than the trans was interested in handling. Level 6....have only used it once or twice when passing on the highway (70-90MPH, already in 5th, no shifts) but the truck sure gets up there in a hurry.

I have been running the 6gun for 20K+ miles of the 45K on the truck with no problems, trouble codes, etc.

Same here, have the LB7 six gun also. Be careful, I did limp tranny three times on level six, hence the trans upgrade by Mike L. No other problems at all, great unit. Getting the Banks inter-cooler put in at the end of febuary, interested to see how that works. When towing 10000lb trailer, EGT's run hi if above level three.

I too have the 6 gun/speedloader. Have yet to tow my trailer with it yet, but thats why i bought it. I have "limped" my tranny twice since install...once on 6 and once in 4. The #4 limp was in 4wheel drive on a snowy road to dry pavement....my own fault. Install was really easy, hardest part was waiting to get everything in to test drive. Be interesting to see how it pulls trailer come summer......

Thanks for the replys guys. Should I be worried about EGT's? All i have is a free flowing muffler (used to be straight piped but got annoying), and no mods to the air intake, i'm in too dirty of conditions most of the time to use one. Also, I have a six speed, I wonder if it'll handle the upper levels better than the ally for the simple reason there's no computer to back it off.:) I suppose my clutch will be the weak spot there, anyway, thanks for the insight. Sounds like it would be a good unit to have.

4" system would be better but you should be OK. I wouldn't recommend anything higher than 3 when towing though, at least not until you can upgrade the exhaust (then you can go 4). You can still do some intake mods to the factory unit (some of the guys call it swiss cheesing the air box). This allows you to retain the factory filter and setup but get more cooler air to it which in turn will help with the EGT's. The 4" exhaust system will help more though. All that being said, I'm very pleased with the unit. It does exactly what I wanted it to and then some.

Just be glad you don't have an LLY. Banks 6 gun, speedloader, monster exhaust on the LLY ran a best of 15.855 at 83.368mph at LACR:( . Now, with the Predator 100 tune it ran a best of 15.682 at 90.58mph at LACR:confused: There is no question, the Banks 6 gun on LLY needs serious help!!!!!

Yes, that's on an LB7. Level 3 runs a little faster than my Hypertech did on the 96hp/163tq setting. Couldn't be happier.

Interesting numbers on the lly, I would have thought it would have been a little quicker than that, anybody running the banks with six speed??

Thanks guys,

How much less expensive is the Hypertech vs the Banks kit? Would it be more cost effective to buy the Hypertech and add an exhaust system? Maybe include a Fingers Stick, and a EGR Blocker plate? The Hypertech can also adjust speedo error.

Does Hypertech help with Tranny issues? Some people seem to be having some issues with the Banks system and their trannys.

We used the Six Gun on level 2 most of the way up here from Georgia, pulling a 12-13000# trailer. It made a differance in the mountian passes, no speed decrease. Can't say the same for all other trucks we passed. :D

We put the speedloader one once we got here, no time to do it before. We also got the Monster exhast as well. The only time we use level 6 is to pass or embarrase Furds. I made on **** the tranny going up against him. I was tempted to stop and see if he wanted me to tow him, but though better of it...lol

I like it. I could tell the differance when I was driving with te trailer when I had it on, and it's nice to suprise the few ricers that are around here.

Thanks for the insight guys, so i guess the speed loader is probably a good thing to get with the tuner huh?

Bad news guys :(

As I said at the beggining of this post I had a buddy wanting to sell his six gun too me, well, turns out he found some guy who wanted to give him an insane amount of money for it and he sold it. Oh well, guess I should have been quicker on the draw. But thanks for all the insight, i'm still interested in the banks!

Thanks again guys,
