I have about 3000 miles on my 05 LLY and my average milage is about 15 mpg doing 75. Is this right, because my cummins gets about 24 mpg doing 75.

As much as I hate to say it, I just got home from a trip to Kalispell and driving 65, I got 16.7. And that was hand calculated, tank filled the same, with stanadyne. Just got the reflash done friday and was hoping maybe just maybe I would get a bit better. Didn't seem to have quite as much zip as before. I would like to see this magical number of twenty like some on here get driving 70 to 80.

The only time I've seen 20+mpg was with a HUGE tail wind and keeping the speed 65mph or less... neither of these conditions happen very often!!!

My normal is 16mpg with mixed town and highway driving @ 70-75mph. I hope it improves a little more with more miles on the truck and summer weather.

I've been using PS additive in each tank and will be switching to Stanadyne soon to see if there's much of a difference.

Your Cummins is getting 24 mpg, ya right. I have 2 friend with that motor and they are getting 14-15 mpg at best. Please take your BSing else whereCensored .

I get close to 20 (19.3) on winter blend doing ~60 mph. On my normal commute to work ~75 mph, I normally get just over 18. It seems to be getting better as time goes on. I would like a nice even 20 mpg....

I've had my LLY for 7 months and have over 13000 miles on it and have only gotten 16 plus MPG on 9 fillups during that time. And 7 of those were during the first 3 months and 6500 miles that I owned it. During the last 6500 miles I've only been over 16 plus MPG twice.
When I pull my 12000 lb fifth wheel I get just over 8 MPG and just might hit 55 MPH going over some of the smaller hills around Helena MT.
The dealer says there is nothing they can do about MPG or power.

every truck has a sweet spot at a certain rpm, but 24mpg? yikes.. must be the 6speed manual or something. oh well, more power to ya.

I could only wish I got that much.

I can't complain...my gasser got 10mpg no matter what speed. Right now I am getting 15mpg city so far and its creeping up with each tank. Give it some time to break in and the mileage will get better. I am seeing it first hand right now.

i have been tracking my mileage since i bought my d-max in 02. i have only seen 19.8 mpg twice in 42k miles. i had to drive 2-1/2 hours to get that mileage. i visited other websites where the people were claiming 20-24 mpg. i thought there was something wrong with my truck. after reading what you guys are experiencing i don't think there is anything wrong with my truck.

my best was 21 mpg hand calculated. with the 40 hp tune on the predator. my goal was once i got over 20 mpg in each tune i would go up a tune. well i had 1/4 of a tank when i switched to my 285's and drove 60 miles and filled up and got 20.3 or something like that and bumped it up to the 85. my best was 17.5 with out the calculated milage for the bigger tires. i never changed my settings.

when i beat on my truck i get 14-15 mpg. i towed a 12k trailor and got 16 mpg i towed a 9 k trailor and got 16 mpg i towed a 10 k trailor and got 13 mpg. it depends on driveing styles and throttle. my normal shift points are 1800-1900 rpms around town and 2100 on the highway. i set the cruies at 2000-2100 rpms or 69-70 mph guessing. and still get decent milage. the sweet spot for my truck is 1800 rpms best power best milage for speed.

When I first bought my truck new, I was only getting 15mpg on highway. Around the 2500 miles mark things started getting better. By the time I had 5000 miles it was around 19 on highway. I only drive 55-60. Sometimes 65. I've got 8000 miles now still the same. Must have peeked out!!!...........now with the predator it'll be down hill for sure.............Rick l

I took a 2400 mile all highway round trip. For the first 1200 miles I was unloaded. With the cruise set at 65, the truck got 20.5 mpg This was with around 1500 some miles on it. With a 10,200 lb boat on the back, cruise set at 65, on the return trip I got 12.3 mpg.

20mpg is possible, but it has to be all highway, and keep it at 65 mph or under. I've noticed anything over 70mph, and it goes in the dumpster.

Normal running around i'm getting 18 combined. All of these numbers are with winter fuel and stanadyne...

i get about 12 to 13 driving 80mph. my highest was 18 1/2 one day driving 50 mph on the highway. i find it hard to beleive these high numbers. my worst was 6 1/2 pulling 7000lbs in a 50 mph headwind doing 85.

My LB7 gets 14.5 in town and 16 on the hwy, my LLY has been averaging around 17 combined driving. I get about 18.5 on the hwy, never any better. Averaged 14.3 towing my 5er at 70 MPH. LB7 on gets around 10 towing.

I am happy with both, my 01 6.0 gasser only got 10mpg not matter what and 4.5 towing.

i get 21, 22 mpg using my dic info. then hand cal, get 15 to 16. fuel used is off by 8 gal per tank not even close. i enjoy leaving the average mpg dic on and take my dodge and ford friends for a ride. they can not believe the mpg. they figure my dic is off by 10 percent like theirs, then i have to fess up and spoil it. 95, 01 fords and this 05 chev all about the same mpg of 16, at 70 to 8o mph. good friend has a reg cab dodge 24 valve 350 rear end and get about the same. only so many btus in a gal of fuel. 20 mpg at aver. 50 mph even hard to bel but any thing is posible.

I have a 04' LLY CCSB with PPE Xcelerator on #3 w/retrax bed cover and i got 23.8 mpg from Atlanta to West palm beach, FL driving 75 to 80
return trip was 23.2
Same trip toting 8,000lbs was 14.2 to 14.6 mpg both ways
Around town normal driving in traffic is around 18
One trip from Atlanta to Orlando was 96 avg mph (about 4 1/2 hours) and i got 14 mpg.
I did no hand calculations, only by truck computer.

The speed limit in MT is 75 on the interstate and 70 on secondary roads. I tend to drive the speed limit or a little better. When I purchased this truck, I wasn't expecting to have to drive it at 55 mph to get a decent mpg and I sure as heck didn't expect 55 MPH going over a little hill pulling my camper. A week or so later, I hooked my 5er back up and made serveral trips over the same hill, once with cruise control on, once with it off, again with tow/haul mode on (with and without cruise control). It just didn't matter, This thing would just not go any faster. Once you got about half way up the hill that was it, the truck just started slowing down and down and down.
I'm afraid that on some of the longer grades, a guy might have to carry some extra fuel, just in case.

do a hand calculation, I'll bet your 14mpg @ 95 is closer to 10, and your "normal" driving is closer to 14. your 75mph avg would be closer to 18. I've yet to hear of anyones DIC reading lower than actual mileage, it's even more optimistic with any tuners.

I once saw 90+ mpg on my DIC, instant check going down a hill.

does this count?

The J/A LLY doesn't seem to effect the DIC but predator and some others effect the DIC readings.

Guys w/ different tires also need to check their % difference for accurate mpg.

Truck has 13,000 miles on it and I have noticed that if I keep the truck at 70 mph I can get 20 to 21 mpg unloaded, if I run it at 75 mph it goes down to about 17 mpg or so. When pulling a 4 place enclosed snowmobile trailer I can get 15 mpg at 70 mph. Key is to keep it at 70 mph for me, anything faster just kills the mileage

My truck is a 04.5 LLY and I live in PA. I filled my truck the same place 3 different times and took the same trip on I-99 with the cruise set on 72 mph. The DIC showed 20.5 everytime and I hand checked it ever time and got right around there (20.3-20.5) and thats not BS. I was skeptical of these guys claiming over 20mpg before I got my truck but now I have living proof. I always assumed 20+mpg was only possible on flat ground but like I said before, Im from PA and its about as far from flat as you can get.

PS. Truck had between 5000 and 8000 miles on it when it was checked. It wasnt this good till then.

I have read every post in this thread and it looks like the higher mileage claims come from non 4x4 trucks. I am sure there is some weight difference as well as some posible drag with the 4x4's even when it is not in 4x4. This could account for some of the diference in numbers.

Thanks goldneye for posting accurate figures. I get the same as you. So how can some people get 16 mpg towing a 12,000 pound trailer when we get 16 unloaded? They don't, plain and simple.
this can and will go back and forth all day every day. every single truck is differnt. ever one. thats plain and simple. how come some trucks get 12 mpg and some get 20? how come some are faster than others? how come some sit higher how come some tires last longer? it goes on and on. i got 20,000 miles on my stock tires and they wouldnt last 5 more. i know people with 40,000 on their stock tires with more tread. i'm not running around complaining about how my tires only last half as long.
my uncle had a 7.3 13 mpg was all it got. hand calculated done by me. 40k best tank was 15 mpg. when towing it got 12mpg. explain that. we know guys with 7.3's with utility bodys that get 15mpg. my point is is every truck is differnt. once you find your trucks sweet spot it will get decent mileage. ive got no reason to give false numbers. no reason at all. you can think what ever you want. but you will not tell me that on my truck what i get for milage. do what ever it take fore you to sleep at night but dont tell me i am lieing just because your trucks isnt the exact same as mine.
ive gotten 16mpg ive gotten 13mpg heck i just filled up and got 12mpg since the last time i filled up. it all plays in factor of driveing style idle time roads u are on continuas speed so on and so forth. my trucks been doing allot of ildeing with high idle and allot of stop and go and spinning tires. ya i didnt expect much. my average around town driveing now is 13-15 mpg over the last 2 fill ups. i know winter fuel plays and affect and i know that the 100 hp tune does to.
like i said about 100 times now my truck is my truck your truck is your truck. i was asked my personal experiences about MY truck i gave them. then i get jumped on because some guys dont get as good gas milage as me.
if i was a big fake why would i keep posting and argueing with you guys? i knew i was gona get hazzed a little because i had unusual high numbers for towing but i will not lie over something as little as gasmilage

Its too bad people develop this emotional attachment I'm getting emotional... about how poor my mileage has been...
Hand calc'd (miles confirmed w/GPS), with Predator on 65 I can't get out of the mid 12's; with it tuned stock add about 1mpg, but have never gotten 14.:(
Now I do have a few excuses for her...
1: <3,000 miles... should improve with age
2: Winter blend fuel
3: Too much idleing (Astrostart)
4: Many <20 mile trips, 1/2 metro, 1/2 60 mph
5: Effect of 33" tire on final gear ratio
Someone had commented on 4x4 mileage being lower, and that has always been my experience... more weight, more driven components even when not in 4wheel drive.

I'd be happy if I could get back just half the mileage difference between mine and the optomistic sounding 20...

Has anyone experienced synthetic oil effect mileage?

My 04.5 LLY gets just about 20 on the interstates running 70 mph, and it's a 4x4. That's mostly I-81 from upstate NY to Roanoke VA, and although some stretches are pretty flat, overall there are quite a few grades. Best mpg was just over 21 on one tank. I've been using Stanadyne since the weather turned cold, but can't say that I've noticed any change in mpg. My truck has never been back to the dealer for anything, and I hope to keep it that way. My buddy has an 02 LB7 4x4 and it does seem to get a bit better mileage than my LLY.

Well I can't speak very for the LLY I drive at work but I cna speak for the Dodge i average 17-18 at 70-75. My last 300 mile trip this weekend I was getting 20.2. This was not had calculated but I have found that my computer is only about .5 off to the low side on every tank I have averaged. Now I want you to keep in mind this trip I tooke this weekend was to go test drive a new 2005 GMC with the duramax. I guess the dodge wanted to look good.
