I've seen the reports about no or little HP gains from an intake under 500RWHP. Just wondering if it would improve 1/4 times by allowing the turbo to spool up quicker? Faster spool=faster time? (Will probably buy anyway as I've now got the SPEED AND HP diesel bug:D) Trans upgrade next and then up to the PPE RACE TUNES:eek: anyone have any thoughts or experiance with this? Thanks Rob

about 480 rwhp and you will start to see gains. any thing below tht and we actually saw very small losses or no gain . as far as spool up you really wont notice to much diffrence with mild tuneing. mabey slightley bettter mpg thoe.

I love mine! Picked up a lil MPG, power too! It does spool quicker! Better throttle responce. But I'm an LB7 and gotta be well into 500hp and possibly 600hp with a diff tune, I hope! I think they have the best bang for the buck, nice lookin intake. No codes, ever! And they can add custom ingraving to the clear lid!

Thanks Fire and Mouse, did you guys have any problems installing? I read on here somewhere that some of them were hitting the HOOD when installed?( On 08 lmm)
don't know if this was true or if they have since fixed the problem? Rob

Thanks for the reply's about liking the filter, and ease of install, I ordered mine already.:D Any other thoughts on the time's improving? I know all about the horsepower loss or no gain, but could slight loss or no gain of HP be negated by qiucker spool of the turbo:rolleyes: Just thinking out loud? Not to familar with turbos, I fix heaters and A/C units for a living.:o: Rob

Hey guys, when ordering on S&B's website, can you use either the red or blue oil, or do you have to use the red? I noticed you have to get that separately.

I'm almost tempted to buy the S&B intake, then get one of those dry filters later...

Now to figure out what I want etched in the top. Thats a neat feature of that intake.

If they dont add any power under 500 h.p., I dont see how its possible to improve on any times. I think quicker turbo spool is in some people's heads...

Comes with red, i want blue though! I'd stray away from the "dry" filters, dont filter as good, an the S&B cleans up easy.:D

So when you order an S&B setup from their website it comes with an oil kit? For $200.06 for an LB7?!? Dang, thats a deal!

S&B's are very well priced. I do run one as well. I didnt notice anything different but its a bad time of year to see about any mileage gains with it. My idle time is killing me but sub zero temps will do that to you.

Mine also didnt come with a cleaning kit. I dont think they do to be honest.

I dont think you would notice the hp gains but again I ask would it help your MPGs? Banks is claiming as much as 62% better flow rate and claiming it will help MPGs and help engine temps by bringing in more air. We all know these LMMs are pigs and Im on a Mileage quest! I wont be happy until Im getting 20 mpg at 75 mph and 15-16 mpg towning. Im changing Intake, intercooler, and putting on Snow performance MPG MAX and see how much better that give me. I know I will get my 20 mpg or better with that because Im not far off now but I cant get any mileage towing so far?

Well heck, they're STILL a deal at $214 anyways. I"m right at that HP point where an intake may do some good.

SB makes the filters for Banks. The pricing difference is that Banks test there products and research cost money. My AFE was throwing codes and I had to return it. So you know it was not tested before it was relased or it would not have went into production. Banks tested for that and claims there's do not throw codes and flow tested it also and claims up to 62% more flow over stock. The old flow charts posted on past links said it was not worth getting a aftermarket intake. If Banks test are true then it is worth getting now. Ask SB for there test data? If they cant produce any, I would not buy it. I will no longer buy anything that has not been tested. I sick of doing things twice and not getting what manufacturers claim!

I love mine..

Friends say they noticed a sound increase. But, maybe little IMO..

Don't know on mileage gains yet.. Probably not from the way im seeing it.

SB might offer flow charts and dyno charts for all I know? I have also heard good things about SB as I did about AFE before I returned my intake. Im just saying get the manufacture to show you test results or dont believe any claims without them.

any sound difference?

I have noticed an increase in whistle. I have to valet park sometimes and I noticed the turbo is louder now.

I really like the intake, haven't seen any mpg increase or lower egt's with it though.

The oil is extra cost, BAC. I forgot to ask for blue! As for sound, i bought mine last summer so the windows are down, very noticealby louder than stock, with stock turbo, IMO. I had it sent to my work and i put it on, on my lunch break and honestly forgot about it, when ileft work, windows up an the a/c on, drivin round town i noticeed a loud spooling sound, and i forgot that i just put it on! Down with the window! I think its a lot louder than the stock box! To make it more enjoyable i cut the fender out too! (after a few months) and a bit louder again! I think it sounds like a Semi now!

S&B does test their intakes, ISO 5011. Look into it, its the most accurate testing available. Testing on the dyno means nothing as numbers can be manipulated one way or the other. Also, different powered trucks would net different results. I am personally interested in how much better it flows and filters over the stock intake, not what some manufacturer makes up for dyno numbers. Food for thought.

Lower two Blue lines: Stock tune LMM 'stock vs. S&B' horsepower lines
Lower two Red lines : "" torque lines

Upper two Blue lines: Big tune LMM 'Stock filter vs. S&B' Horsepower lines
Top two Red lines : Big tune LMM ''' Torque numbers

Big tune : S&B makes a noticeable difference

Stock tune: Negligeable

These tests were done on member Fire0021's truck... I don't sell or promote S&B products, just showing the results. (for the second time;))
