i have a 05 duramax and was curious where the pump is. I know on my 94 350 gas it was in the tank. Is it the same on the 05?

It sucks fuel from the tank, and pressurizes it to 23,000 psi+. I think Max war referring to a electrical pump usually below or near the bottom of the fuel tank. Hence the term " lift" pump. The fuel pump is the fuel pump and the low-pressure portion is integral to the whole pump, which is what is shown in your photo.
