it seems like whenever the weather is quite cold or my truck has a hard time starting it kicks my tranny out. i'll go to take off and i get the whole shift range inhibited deal. i then cycle my ignition twice and it comes out of it. is this common cuz it's a pain in the ass.

i'm honestly not sure if it is or not. i didn't know if the nsbu switch would cause this. i want to say the code i threw was a p0841e or p0814e not exactly sure. the ppe book didn't have it listed so i don't know what it means.

It's possible that the voltage to the TCM is too low for it to think straight.
When you first turn the key on and instantly crank the engine over in cold weather, the glow plugs are pulling like 100 amps, the grid heater is sucking it down and so is the starter. The voltage may drop below what the computer in the TCM will accept.

When it's cold as a witch's tit, cycle the glow plugs a couple times, wait for the coil light to go off, count to 2 then crank it. You may also have a weak ground connection. It's right in the splash zone from the salt spray. On a cross bar under the drivers left foot (at least on the '03's).

The ground / low V can also make the ABS controller freak out. Just an FYI.

hey thanks cuz yeah the service brake light sometimes comes on also. i always cycle the plugs twice if i don't get the chance to plug it in.
