I like that much better than the pillar ones. I like the look of the pillar but do not like that they are not covered like the OEM pillars. Good job.

thanks guys. yea sitting in traffic one day it just kind of came to me that it might be a good spot for guages. i dont really like pillars ether and have a need for some mechanical guages along with my insight. if theres enough intrest i might do some limited runs on some. thanks for the positive feed back

It'd be cool if you could get the basketball type dimples textured on it, like the factory dash and everything, I hate that the most about all the aftermarket pods, there so cheaply built they take hours to make them fit right and there not textured like the factory panels.

fire0021
03-02-2008, 09:01 PM
tht stock cover is not textured like the dash, door panels so i dont know if it would look good. but if you guys wanted it that way its easy enough to do. i agree the aftermarket pillars are kinda cheapish in quaillty and estetics. thts why I want to make sure theeese are perffect :)

I like this idea, but is there a way to move it back so it doesnt cover the side window vent? If so, count me in........I cant stand the cheap look of the pillar mounts, thats why my gauges are still sitting in the shop.

i agree very cool looking, i can see them being a pretty good seller as well, but the only thing that might scare some people is the time it'll take to run the wire through the door jamb then up to the mount. but, for the cleaner look i think it'll be worth it. i do also like the other idea of a 2 gauge as a dash pod.

let me know when you get these things goin maybe we can work something out ;)

ahh thts the best part. I installed the guage pod with 100% no tools and ran all the wires with 100% no tools its actually imo easier then a pillar mount. pop off plastic cover theres a spot to drop the wires right down the door. wires fall right to the factory door wire run. run through boot right into the cab. it litterllay took less then 10 mins to install the guage mount and run the wires and hook it all up :)

I dont think theres much more tht can be done in the way of the window vent is concerned. but as the air flows out of my edge pod vents it seems to circulate right around the new guage and onto the window. I havent yet seen any fogging issues.

Looks great!

I have one concern though - Would there be any issues with damaging the gauges with the door movement (ie: impact from closing the door)? I know the gauges are designed to take a certain amount of abuse - but with this mounting location you are adding a lot of additional impact cycles to the gauges... I wonder if it would effect the longevity / accuracy of the gauge...

akdiesel
03-07-2008, 06:01 PM
I don't see how it could be any different than the gauges that mounted to the A-piller. For every time you close the door it would take the same impact as the location of the these mounts.
You could always be test subject for him.

Thanks. yea thats actually something i never considered i dont for see it being a issue. like said the pillar guages would probbaly take about the same amount of abuse. impact or vibrations mabey even more? But Im going to check a couple resources. I think it may come down to the quality of the guage used. ?

If you need help I have worked in the Tool and Mold industry for some time now and know a lot of people. Is part of it the cost of getting the plastic pellets? or just getting a place to run the plastic injection mold?

Or is it a forming mold/press?

Be advised. I purchased a factory navigation radio from Tommy in March. It was to include the GPS antennae. When the unit arrived it was missing the GPS antennae. We agreed that I would purchase a new one and Tommy would send me a check to cover the cost of the antennae. I am still waiting for the check, and get no response to any PM's I have sent. Just thought you should know how he conducts business.

he did not send you antennae??? a pair of sense organs located near the front of an insect's head capsule. Although commonly called "feelers", the antennae are much more than just tactile receptors. They are usually covered with olfactory receptors that can detect odor molecules in the air (the sense of smell). Many insects also use their antennae as humidity sensors, to detect changes in the concentration of water vapor. Mosquitoes detect sounds with their antennae, and many flies use theirs to gauge air speed while they are in flight.

What a jerk:D

I think maybe because he made one for himself and we sort of overwhelmed him with wanting one or two and now he has like 50 people wanting them and no time.

Ok, Tommy, you can cancel out my order for the double pod for the dash.

I am tired of the duct tape job I had to use and I am finally gonna just bore out two 2" holes on each side of the dash below the steering wheel like Calabria69 has done.

I will however take the one for the door piece tho still. If not then I will make one this week with some fiberglass.

fire0021, I have a question for you, how hard would it be to make one that a dashhawk or insight gauge would fit on the door like what you are making? I just not real excited on the mount that holds it on the top of the dash. So I was thinking that area would be awesome to have the insight gauge mounted. What do you think, coud it be possible?

thanks for your reply.

Guys this is not my day job i have may things on my plate and there just is not enough time in the day. I have been through many hurdles with theese pods its alot harder to get them correct then you think. then when i finnaly did i gave them to someone to mesure and put in cad and they missplaced them so they say  so i had to make new sets it cost me $300 and about 20 hrs to hand make each one. the only way to be fesable at this point is to have them mass produced over seas wich cost alot of money for set up and what not. I have been promised by many diffrent vendors they could do it and come to find out they cant or out source it somewhere else. Im still looking into it and if I can find a cost eficiant place in the us to produce them i will. if not I may make some more I have a few now but am not going to get rid of them yet. D I would think you would be happy I didnt take your money. I wont take money for something i cant get u right then and there. Sorry for you guys That have been wateing and mabey one of theese days I can get theese made.

Tommy,

I can try and see to have these door pods made. If you can get me one that I can return to you I can have it 3D scanned and one cut out with the rapid prototyping machine I have access to and then molds made. If it works out then you got some gauge pods made.
