i know you have to get the engine up to temp and flogged to help burn any crap or deposits in there, but what about the trans? do i NEED to get it up to temp to keep it healthy? i know, getting the engine and allison up to temp go hand-in-hand, but lately i've been puting it in T/H the second i can, which i think would lower trans temps because of the no slipping. i know i can't get the trans icecold when i'm going 65, but in theory, and generally, do transmission need to get up to temp? (up to temp as in the trans oil is at the right viscosity and everything is flowing good)
thanks
EDIT-
nevermind this thread, found the answer on another diesel website

Yes! You need to warm it up just like any other hydraulic system. I am sure Mike can give you a list of things that won't work properly when cold. Later! Frank

Are you guys making fun of me and my age?):h Shame on you. Yes, the trans should be at an operating temp to perform at its best just like our bodys. The rubber seals and molded pistons need to be plyable to seal well. The metal parts were designed to operate best at a certain temp and so is the fluid. You will notice that the converter clutch will never apply before a certain temp. That was all planned to protect the trans. Never flog the truck till you get to operating temps. Same goes for your body. Allways warm up before any kind of activity.
