Ok, so I know everyone's tired of reading about coolant leaks, but I wanted to post and maybe get a few ideas before I go buy parts. I discovered the leak yesterday afternoon, I assumed it to be the water pump as to the location where it is leaking. I had to drive the truck a few miles last night to get it home after I discovered the leak, it never over heated or got hot, so Im assuming its still pumping. So I pull it in this morning to verify that its the water pump. Let it run for a few minutes and then take a look, I looked around the water pump itself, the weep hole, and all the t-stat tubes, didn't see much, I mean its wet, but then again the whole front of the motor is wet, then I look from the top down and notice anti-freeze running down what I would call the "valley" of the engine right behind the fan pulley and it almost looks like its coming from the passenger side, so now Im thinking maybe head gasket? Not 100% sure either way, what do you guys think? I took a few pics, Im still trying to figure out how to post them.

Make sure you keep checking for signs of water in the oil pan , if you suspect head gasket

good luck

There is a small cross over tube right above the water pump that is about 3.5 inches long and rubber. When I had my truck appart last week and was replacing all of the little hoses, that one was fairly deteriorated. You might want to check that.

The hose in question is not above the water pump...its directly above the balancer, behind the fan pulley.

Bac, you hit the nail on the head to the location of the tube, and mine looks nasty too. While diagnosing this morning, I started it up again and its definatly the water pump. I read your write up Bac and I can already tell that is going to be a HUGE help, that's for the help guys.

This is what I'm finding to be very strange.....

You'd think that we'd hear more about water pumps going out during summer, when cooling systems are being pushed to their limits by higher outside temps, not during the winter.
I cant believe how many "coolant leak" threads there have been over the past 3 months.
