: Just dropped 13k in cash at my local shop.
blowblacksmoke 03-01-2008, 10:37 PM Just ordered a Cognito 12in with all the optitions and fox shocks (6 total). Also got 20inch KMC Diesels in chrome with black rings and 38inch micky thompson tires. Anyone having any problems with the congnito kit? Please let me know.
PS
The local shop that i speak of is 4 Wheel Specialties in North Hills, CA (in the San Fernando Valley). I have had good luck with them in the past as i had them lift my 99 Z71 and my 03 Avalanche.
TIM Z 03-01-2008, 10:41 PM Damn Dude, for 13 G's id be wanting a Straight axle setup! Sounds cool though!
HEAVYdutyDMAX 03-01-2008, 10:45 PM Sounds sweet, but i think 13k is kinda high. Should look killer though.
blowblacksmoke 03-01-2008, 11:00 PM well i also forgot to mention i also got traction bars, sway bars (front and rear), rear deaver springs, mag hytec tranny and rear diff pan, and 5:56 gears. that price also includes labor, if you guys still think that is too much please let me know so i can talk to the guy i delt with at the shop
PS
also heavy duty billet tie rods
BIGLIFTEDDIESEL 03-01-2008, 11:06 PM isnt 5:56 too much for 38's
HEAVYdutyDMAX 03-01-2008, 11:08 PM Well with gears and install of everything that is probably about right then. Labor can add up quick.
bikerboy-36 03-01-2008, 11:12 PM thats a lot of dough
blowblacksmoke 03-01-2008, 11:19 PM isnt 5:56 too much for 38's
it might have been 4:56 gears sorry all i have is a hand writen reciept from the shop
Pure Diesel 03-01-2008, 11:38 PM Is the place at Sepulveda and Plummer? South west corner?
jdugie123 03-01-2008, 11:39 PM you will need to get some pics up of your truck when they are done
southbayrhino22 03-01-2008, 11:42 PM What size rear springs did you get? With 38's I would not crank torsion up to 12" or you will have a rough ride. Whats the backspacing on rims must be at least 4.5 or you will have to run spacers to clear the spindle. They gave me a list and I dont remember seeing the diesels on it. I know the Badlands Balzac and rockstars come in proper backspace. Must of been 4.56 for the gears. Prepare to have neighbors that hate you and turn heads wherever you drive.

Yes it is, they do great work there.
The truck is going in middle of next week they are waiting on parts, as soon as its done pics will be up ( after i take it to the car wash right afterwards  )

Im not sure on all the specs i just told the salesman what i wanted and he took it from there, also i was there friday at 5:30 and they closed at 6 and they were really busy (a bunch of people getting there nitrous tanks filled) so i wasent there really long, but i am going in on monday and i will post all the details. LOL i know what you mean i have a neighbor that has a lifted f-250 who i see every morning when i leave for work and we have never really been on the "nice" side, we always give eachother the "look". I cant wait man!!!!!:ro)
B-rad 03-02-2008, 08:22 AM i thought the neighbor proble mwas just me. thats good to know. not that im glad its happening to you guys too.
you will love it. i have that very same combo except i have 20" rockstars. i hope you have some sort of step bar or are very young and nimble :)
Cant wait to see it all done.:ro)
down4bmx 03-02-2008, 11:20 AM Man thats going to look sweet! That exaxtly what I was going to do until I just decided If im spending that much cash Ima do a solid axle instead. Your truck is going ot look Sick though!
Pure Diesel 03-02-2008, 12:42 PM Yes it is, they do great work there.

Yes, they do great work. Bought a lot items from them. Good luck with truck.
factorymx 03-02-2008, 01:32 PM that set up sounds BADA$$
TXVTX 03-02-2008, 03:23 PM That sounds about right. I look at it this way: experience and quality workmanship and parts are critical for getting it done right the first time and staying that way.
My setup on my'08 cost about $10K for everything and that is for a 7-9" setup (pictures in my garage). Sure I could have gone with a less expensive kit and not installed all the heavy duty parts I did and then installed everything myself to save money but at my age  doing it right the first time matters the most to me.
southbayrhino22 03-02-2008, 03:39 PM Price sounds right to me also. Just want to make sure it turns out the way you want. I had to add 1.5" blocks in rear so it would sit the way I wanted I had pick between 6 sets of rims available at the time that had right backspace so I did not have to run spacers to clear spindle. I also could not tow toy hauler without adding bags and almost missed a trip because of it. The ride is also alot rougher than running 38's with torsion not fully cranked. Any questions BlowinBlackSmoke just ask us. That way you get it just how you want it first time.
Brandon1320 03-03-2008, 06:19 PM I live like 2 miles from that shop.
GMC2500HD 03-03-2008, 09:56 PM Well the gearing should be 4:56 and you just wasted a lot of money, but good luck...
maxedout310 03-03-2008, 10:22 PM well i think its a fair price my buddy paid almost 18k for basically the same setup. i paid around 20k for everything i got..everything in my sig that is.
breecher_7 03-03-2008, 10:26 PM Well the gearing should be 4:56 and you just wasted a lot of money, but good luck...
I didnt want to be the one to say this considering I live in reality and tend to burst peoples bubbles pretty often....
So thanks for saying it for me...... :D
maxedout310 03-03-2008, 10:29 PM dont you think he shoulda ran 4;88's instead?

With 38's, i would have. Id rather be overgeared the undergeared......
I think he should have shopped around a bit more as well, but its his coin and as long as he is happy, thats what matters.

To each his own. I personally think a 12" lift or 40" tires on a pavement pounder is completely assanine. It takes all the practicality of the vehicle and pisses it out the window.

well it depends but that is true its up to the person. i personally use mine still to tow my 32" touhauler and it still goes in the sand and is daily driven no matter how pretty it looks. thats why they have pressuer washers..lol
breecher_7 03-03-2008, 10:46 PM Im so glad I no longer live in southern california..... It gets old watching people put themselves deeper and deeper into debt just to uphold an "image"
Lifted truck, ok.... Pavement pounded monster truck wannabee, compensation much?
I just dont get it, it serves no purpose... Regardless of how high it sits its still worthless off road because its to long and to heavy...
But if it does it for ya! Enjoy it!
southbayrhino22 03-03-2008, 11:02 PM I paid cash for my lift. I even drove to Bakersfield and picked it up. After getting stuck in Glamis with 2 front tires on pavement and rear of truck and trailer in sand I was over the skinny stock tires. I have not got stuck since and can pull my whole rig into the sand no problem. Now I dont have to leave a week early on holiday weekends just to get a spot. There is alot of trucks I see that dont get used but mine does even on 40" tires. I know 12" is a bit overkill but when your friend owns the lift shop thats what happens. My setup was 2k more than the 7-9" that I planned on getting. I figured 2 days worth a work might as well go big.

jdugie123 03-04-2008, 10:34 AM wow its amazing to see all the people that come out and start to bad mouth others on their trucks it is just like guys that buys a trucks to go race. BigRedHD 03-04-2008, 11:13 AM Your Trucks Are Sick! Dont Listen To The Haters. They Just Wish They Had It Like That.
Duratime 03-04-2008, 12:52 PM Glamis is like no place I have ever seen. You often see $450,000 motorhomes pulling trailers with $100,000 sandrails. It is crazy how much cash is spent on the machines there. No magazine article that I have ever seen has been able to show the amount of excess that is there. Some poeple work hard so they can play hard. More power to them! Good luck with your truck, $13K well spent!
z1000r 03-04-2008, 01:01 PM bottom line is that people are going to do what they want to do and there's nothing you can do about it.
jdugie123 03-04-2008, 01:51 PM i can't wait to see pics of your truck i bet it will look great
blackduramax07 03-04-2008, 04:43 PM I think your setup is going to be tits. Can't wait to see pics when it is out of the shop.
jdugie123 is right on the money. I reckon some people just have to get their jabs in. Must make them feel better.

Have you ever tried to load a Motorcycle (other then a dirtbike) into the bed of your truck? This is what I mean by practicality.
I like the "look" of a lifted truck just as much as anyone else. But for someone that uses a truck as a truck instead of a fashion item or to take the kids to soccer practice, its not practical.
Ive had lifted trucks, lifted from 3" to 12". Anything over a 4" lift makes things difficult and not worth it IMO.
fordh8r 03-04-2008, 11:28 PM i can bet that almost everyone here uses there truck to the fullest and beats the sh&*% out of them pulling trailers or just offroading

yes i had a yamaha raptor with super side mx suspension on it. and now im lookin for another one. it wasnt any more of a problem than when it was stock height. at least for me it isnt.
righteyeblind 03-04-2008, 11:54 PM How much more is it to do a solid axle? Why wouldn't you just do that?
down4bmx 03-05-2008, 12:30 AM yeh my last truck had 13" of lift I loaded my quad in the bike to go ride all the time.. Wasnt that much more of a pain in the ass to get in it there... My LMM is going 10-11" with a solid axle and ill be pulling my 28ft tahoe trailing and loading quads in it all the time like my last truck... No biggie :)

he sounds like a ***** who wouldnt ride his bike or 4-wheeler into the bed since it would be too tall :p:
factorymx 03-05-2008, 12:42 AM i race motocross and ive witnessed alot of people attempting to ride there bike into the bed. i remember one kid who made it up then hit the gas and popped the clutch and shattered the rear window by accident lol his dad wasnt too happy

When did it become practical to use a 600+ ft/lb truck to haul a motorcycle? A longbed S-10 will do the exact same thing and be even easier to load and unload. That is practical. It's not an issue of "practicality", as much as an issue of personal preference. In the world of lifted trucks, it is more practical to use a diesel truck because the torque and hp makes it easier for the truck to roll 40" tires. That's pretty much common sense.

No really people that have lifted trucks do use them. Sometimes it might take extra mod's to offset the lift and larger tires but it can be done.
Nice pic jdugie123 !

Rodeo_Joe 03-05-2008, 10:33 PM The haters are the ones who can't afford to throw $13K extra they have down for a big lift. To each there own. Your truck your choices. everyone wants a one of a kind vehicle to there own preferance, vision. Not all of us have the time, and or space to install the kit too.
duramaxin14 03-05-2008, 10:35 PM It dont matter if u lift them high sled pull them or drag race them. I know i bought my diesel to have fun smoke the ricers hook to a good size load and pull the sled 300+ when i get the free time. If u think people lifting there truck is stupit i guess all of us drag racers and sled pullers are to. I want to enjoy live not drive like grandma. Also i have had a dodge with a fabtech 8 inch lift i pulled 25 round bails of hay with the truck each bail weighing about 1100 pounds. Gooseneck weights 6800+ other then the front end filling light it did good. U can do just as much with a lifted truck that u can a none lifted truck. Well except drive to the frecking air port under there low parking garage roofs.
