I have been thinking off and on for years about doing something with WVO. Just looking for opinions on what works best, is cheaper or easier, etc. Can't decide if it will be worthwhile for me to do. I have read for hours about the different systems, but can't make up my mind.

I know that no matter which way I go, it has to be cheaper than $3.70 and rising, however, I don't actually put that many miles on the truck. One system I looked at (I think it was greasecar) requires you start on diesel, warm up then use WVO, then switch back to diesel before shutting off. Here's my deal: I always warm it up for a few minutes before driving, and a couple minutes after parking it too. So that's no problem, but I only drive about 4.5 miles to work. Doesn't seem worth while. I might save 2 gallons a week working four days, plus whatever other driving around I do.
When I'm plowing I have it running for a good five hours and use most of a tank.
Guess I need to figure out if the savings would be worth the work and hassle of getting the stuff and filtering it at home. I've seen where some guys treat it and mix it with diesel, ideally that's what I'd like to do, rather than have a whole nother fuel system. But I'm leery about goofing it up and causing my truck to plug up. Can't afford any breakdowns
I have friends who own a breakfast/lunch diner, said I can have all their oil. Don't know what exactly they use or how much they produce. I could probably find more around, there's a few pizza joints and Chinese places nearby.
I have room upstairs in my garage to do this, I have a pickup to go get oil drums with, and some free time to do it with. I have moderate mechanical ability. Well, on a good day it's moderate. It does have it's low points too.

Reason I posted here is to get input from 6.5 guys, so if there are any 6.5 specific problems or positives I can find them.
Thanks

Try looking at the web site journey to forever. It is great in explaining all the steps in making biodiesel. You can run your truck off of it without changing a thing. The first step is to get the instructions and make 1 liter of it with new oil from the grocery store. Then make your own 5 gallon processor. I was able to pick everything up at Home Depot and process with 3 orange Home Depot buckets. I can make 10-15 gallons a week. I plan on upgrading to a 55 gallon processor soon and then two 250 gallon processors. I will be selling the biodiesel to a local lumber mill to run their equipment and heat my house in the winter. The major cost after setting up the system is Methanol. You can get this at any race shop. Also once you are comfortable with the process, recapture the Methanol in a condensor (Jouney to Forever can show you). As far as which is better Petro-Diesel or Biodiesel there is no question well made Biodiesel will prolong the life of your engine. Just make sure you wash the diesel correctly and keep plenty of fuel filters on hand when you start using it. The biodiesel will clean out your system and depoit the Petro-gunk in your filter. Also you can mix Bio with Petro in the winter to avoid gelling and you can switch back and forth. For the record, I am not a tree hugger, just looking at ways to start a small business and with the cost of diesel this seemed like a great way to put my handyman skills to work for me.

Just read the about a WVO Dmax in the latest Diesel World magazine on Page 29 "Smells like french fries".

I'm new to the WVO topics and am somewhat confused.

Question: Is WVO being filtered and used in its "raw" form?

I know that it can be used to produce BioDiesel and I have no intrest in BioDiesel.

I do have interest in anything that will yeild 84.6 MPG that the reader reported.

I also recall the MythBusters running a show with a similar subject.

I have been running straight WVO for 35K know and no issues been running flawlessly. Did a Dino and lost 7 hp on WVO which is 3% (big deal) Greasecar will be coming out with a DMax production kit in 2 months. The key to making this work on a DMax is the filter system you use to clean your VO before you burn it. If D Maxs have issues with dirty Dino then without Clean WVO you will have the same issues. Check out my garage for pics.
