Hey, my 2004.5 LLY would not go past like 2000 RPM. I was driving normal and started to go up a small hill and it died at like 2000 RPM. It is cold as hell -2. The engine light is on. The truck has 3600 miles and is bone stock. Any suggestions?

Are you treating your fuel?

yes, I am using an additive. I forget the name of it. I got it from Walmart. It is in a gray bottle. The engine light is still on.

sorry didn't see that you were bone stock.
transmission temp makes a difference.

Try parking it inside somewhere warm to thaw out and see if that makes a diff - that will rule out gelling.

Had that happen to me this morning. Started truck, engine light is on, wasn't on yesterday. Truck had no power and although it would go past 2000 rpm's it would wind up very slowly. Called my dealer and they could take the truck in right away. BTW, have TTS Tow/Tune and Banks exhaust.
Anyway, dealer reads codes and low boost comes up. The wastegate stuck in the open position hence no boost buildup. They reset everything and it is running strong again. You may be experiencing the same. As a side note, temp in Jersey this morning was 5.

Happened to me this morning! My 05 crapped out about 1 mile from my house! Code was for fuel rail pressure, had to bring it to the dealer so ne could reset the computer! This is my 5th diesel in 12 years and its only happened 1 other time and I wasn,t running any additive! Bad Fuel and -5 temps= Gelling!
It sucks I filled up last night! 50 Gallons of crap fuel in my tanks! Service rep said to go to napa and put a can of Diesel911 in tanks! I ran it all day and it was OK!

911 is emergency only. Best suggestion (aside from buying better fuel and treating with FPPF Total Power) is to add about 15-20% #1 diesel to your tank(s) if you can make enough room.

My father in laws 05 had the pressure regulator go bad.
It was intermitent and ran fine, then 2000 rpm.
It took them a few trys to fix it
Well I'm pretty sure it was the fuel gelling. The temp warmed up to about 14 degreesand the engine light went off and it is running fine. My question is did the gelling cause any damage, like clogging the filter or anything?

It could deform the pleats in the filter under too much suction. Change it.

If you are using the Gray bottle that is your problem. It's Diesel Kleene and will not keep the fuel from gelling. Get the white bottle of Power Service and it will keep the fuel from gelling.

Or better yet, FPPF Total Power...
