Does anyone have a pic of this special tool needed to put the tailgate cap on? I've searched through a bunch of threads and everyone says its needed and it was asked a few times for pics of the tool but no one ever posted. If anyone has this tool can you post a pic of it or tell me where I can get one from? I tried NAPA but the moron up there had no clue what I was trying to do and thats where the dealer told me to try. Thanks

Google "nutsert" or "rivnut" tool.

That brings up a lot of different tools but I have no clue which one I would need to do the tailgate cap.

I looked through that one. It doesn't tell me anything. I already have the spoiler and the nuts and bolts. I didn't buy the "kit" b/c I don't like the smooth one thats comes with it. I just want to know what the tool looks like so I can go buy it. Like I said earlier I already seached through a bunch of threads and found nothing that would help me.

I don't have a digital camera..........dosen't look like the one that came with the nuts & screws from midway. Why don't you just call them?? (Midway) The nuts, screws, and simple tool (looks like a screw) will cost ya about the same..less than 20 bucks. Just trying to help ya out,,,,that's the best that I can tell ya.......good luck!

By making a long 6pt 8mm wrench, you can reach through and hold the insert while using a lubricated M6x1.0 bolt and flat washer to draw the insert tight (be sure to lube the washer also). I used a generic old wrench and welded a piece of 5/16 round bar to it, but you can put the wrench into a small diameter pipe and beat the pipe flat to hold it.
I just searched the web through grainger, harbor freight, mcmaster-carr, and northern tool, BUT all their tools are for std thread inserts, and the ones for the protector are metric, M6x1.0.
I would seriously consider talking to a GM or any brand body shop, and ask if they can set the four M6x1.0 inserts for you. Slip 'em a couple bucks and everyone wins.

I actually talked to my buddy at the dealer and he said they had the tool up there and he would put it on for me. He called me about an hour and a half after I made my last post so I'm just gonna let him do it. He said they had quite a few of the tools at the shop. Thanks for all yalls help.

It looks even cooler with a pair of Whelen Tir3 Amber LED warning lamps in it and a backup camera. Plus, now you'll you'll have a place to balance your coffee.
