: Sketchy reports on Biodiesel and Warranties
Super Diesel 01-22-2005, 01:03 AM Please be aware there will always be funny or sketchy reprorts from auto manufactures and ANY ONE who has there hands in the oil or engine making buisness. They all profit from selling petrolium powered vehicles, and NONE of them wants us getting wind of how to make your viehicle last three or more times as long because THEIR profits and revenue goes down. Plus the Biodiesel WILL replace praticaly anything petolium based so it would put the very powerful oil buisness at a very low usage level compared to now a days. More folks would be buying Diesels and using Biodiesel as a main fuel for the longer life of the vehicle. Gas has a replacement as well. Ethonol. Emissions go to pot on this fuel. Biodiesel WILL greatly improve the emissions of Diesels however. I have run everything from straight veggie oil in my diesel all the way to regular 100% Biodiesel. This is the original diesel fuel any way. The only thing we have to fear about it is, LACK of information. This is extremly suppressed info. The oil and auto buisness is not there for your profit. They are content with brisk sales of replacement vehicles and the liquid dinosaur they use. Make no mistake about it. Why would they want to make less vehicles that last much longer for the consumer and doesn't use the oil that their pockets are so full of cash from? Things are changing if they want it to or not. The further we are in front with knowledge about the truths, the better we all are in the long run.
mannytranny 01-22-2005, 01:13 AM Exactly what I wanted to hear....Tx SD http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/rockon.gif
The only area that concerns me is stability when stored over a few months. Even the maker of the fuel said that it is best to use it within 6 months.
Youve run the Max on SVO? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif
Super Diesel 01-22-2005, 03:26 AM It's tricky, but yes it can be done (I still have the tank I did it with). No diesel fuel or Biodiesel should be stored in all reality for more than 6 months (with out a agent in it) because of the possibility of bacteria and festering build up problem with it. Shelf life with Biodiesel can be greater than most think, as I have found out.
RonJT 01-22-2005, 03:59 AM I can say....after running a tank of ULSD w/o additives that the truck runs like cr...p.
I could not believe the difference. I put that in because of a trip to the dealer. Balance rates went up.
B20 back in and wow...back to smooth response and power...and lower balance numbers.
I am convinced that these trucks run better on Biodiesel/Blend.
Manny---6months is pushing any fuel.
mannytranny 01-22-2005, 11:26 AM Ya, Ill have to get it used up before then.
SD, what kind of "storing agent" should be used with BD? Ive got Stabil, but Im not sure thats of any use with BD.........
Super Diesel 01-22-2005, 06:13 PM I highly recommend Racor Diesel Biocide. It can be found at auto parts stores, diesel fuel or home heating oil distributors, Diesel sevice shops, and boat marinas. If there is a question about the condition of the stored Biodiesel or Diesel fuel for that matter, stick a clean wooden rod or dowel down in to the fuel or oil and carfully remove it. Inspect it for any green, slimy bacteria. If there is any, then pour the required amount of liquid Biocide in there. If you know it will be sitting for a while, fill the tank and add 2oz of Biocide to every 30 or so gals of fuel. You can also add 2oz of Biostat which is a bacteria growth inhibitor.
mannytranny 01-22-2005, 06:29 PM Thanks SD, Ill keeep an eye out for the stuff. Sounds like I would be well advised to add it to the 55g drum.
I have no cause to believe that the fuel is not of good quality to begin with. Ive heard that testing it for cloud point is a good idea, so I put some in the fridge overnight, and it came out just as claar as it went in. Tried it in the freezer, and it gelled, but came back to clear pretty quick.
Its made from WVO, but I dont know how or if that effects overall quality.........
TDI, truck, and tractor are all on a ~B20 blend. All seem to be running smoother, and quiteter on it too..........
mannytranny 01-23-2005, 09:43 PM I think the problem that many are having with biodiesel (read TDIclub) is that the BD they are getting is sub standard. (ie full of glycerine or water, or old BD)
I have no reservations about Running B100 thats a known quality fuel, but it sounds like good BD may be hard to find..........
I need to get mine tested..............
lakingslayer 03-08-2005, 03:29 PM I just bought a half tank of B20 at a F**d dealership yesterday. Yes they sell fuel. They have propane, B20, #2, Reg unleaded, super unleaded and an electric plug for electric vehicles. I'd say the F**d dealership doesn't have a problem with the biodiesel since they sell the stuff. Anyway it's the only local retailer I've found here in San Diego so that is why if you are wondering I went to a F**d dealership. I'll be back there for the next fill up.
RonJT 03-08-2005, 03:57 PM lakingslayer,
IF it is RTC then I have run it off and on when I am in La Mesa visiting my sister.
Truck runs good on it....it is the recycled stuff.

Thanks for the info. Yes it's RTC. So far so good. A little pricey ($2.60/gal) but I think my truck will like it.
Powerdude 03-12-2005, 09:09 AM Very good info ! You are completely right SD. Car companies aren't interested in making making YOUR life easier. They are interested in making money, and will only support their vehicles (warranties, info etc) to the degree that it helps them make MORE money down the road.
In other words, they are only interested in appearances, and PERCEIVED public image, so they do not look bad and they can continue to sell product.
That's not to say that their products are crap, but they could be much much better. It's up to the user to maintain them to lengthen their useful life.
