I know Lowes has rolls of carpet protector. We use them on rehab jobs in houses with carpeted floors. HD might have it too. However, no "dealer must remove" printed on it

i bought a roll of plastic runner material from lowes and tucked it under the molding to hold it down

If I remember right I got it pretty cheap as they have an email specials list I signed up for.

Yup, any home store will carry it - Look in the flooring and paint areas as they usually keep it in both places. Only difference is that it will not be perforated, it must be cut.
