: Banks LLY Owners Read caution

I just got off of the phone with banks tech on the problem I have been having, where level 3 feels really good, but the levels after that do not perform very well at all.

The 05 LLy has stock 607tq. This is a lot more then the lly4.5. They told me that from what I described to them and they are know looking into is that with the extra torque on the 05 and the banks with speed loader I am slipping my trans after level 3.

This sucks I paid almost 3,000 for it to be installed and all and all I can use is level 3.

Got Juice? 01-21-2005, 08:32 PM The trans can only take so much torque in stock form, and even the best 'slip sensing' modules are not fast enought to catch it. Fact is the LLY dips into the reserve capacity of the Allison more than the LB7 could in stock form. Don't blame the module. Upgrade the transmission.
I have often wondered what the 6 gun S.L would do with a fully built trans under it as far as torque production.

Certainly only an opinion not trying to start any flaming.

socalnewbie 01-21-2005, 09:43 PM If I'm reading it right, the "Big Hoss Bundle" puts out a lot more than just 124HP and 300TQ. If that is what you have, then I could see it smoking the ally pretty easily.

However...
Drive in 5th gear at about 80 and floor it. Watch the tach and count how many seconds it takes to get to 90. Do it with different power levels.
Report what you find. I'm not convinced it's the trans.

$3000 is nearly enough to get your Allison beefed up.
Add $350-800 for tuning, and you can haul butt.
dpower 01-22-2005, 12:16 AM Did Banks ever talk to you about the tranny? Thats a huge limiting factor on an auto Dmax or otherwise. I would uninstall the product and tell them you are not satisfied...which I am assume you are not! Get your money back if possible. I am with Mcrat....not so sure the tranny is the real culprit.
bartman 01-22-2005, 01:57 AM I just got a quote today for the 6 gun bundle for way less then $2000 directly from Banks...for the LLY! I did not ask about the Big Hoss bundle. I think it is about a $1000 more because of the intercooler. Robgmcman, you need to upgrade your tranny if you want it to hold the power. Banks does have safety features built in to keep you from frying your tranny, so that safeguard is backing down the power to prevent the "Limp" from happening. Don't blame Banks, no ones hi-power programs will lay down all of the power with a stock transmission. Start Saving!
I highly doubt your defueling do to tranny slip, when I limped mine with the six gun(after it had already been limped with the quad) it blew right thru the 3% slip detect and set my ses light, I never limped it before this and I beat the sh%t out of it boosted launch after boosted launch and I think I have one of the faster 1/4 times with the six gun the old fashioned way(at the dragway not with some fancy device)take it back my experiance with the techs you get on the banks 800 number is they are install techs and thats it. you need to talk to the person or persons who installed it or talk to Peter t or some one who can set you straight, does your tranny fluid look burnt? yea I have a lb7 but I doubt your LLY in level 3( not even full power)is slipping the trans unless it came screwed up from the factory. do some more digging I am sure banks will give you a new box to try

Robgmcman 01-22-2005, 04:15 PM I had the 6 gun bundle and i had taxes as well as i have them install it. So rounded up from 2800 i came up with 3000.<O:p</O:p
I am not happy with it. I can not do anything with the 6 gun but level 3 and for the money i could have saved i could have (like most of you said) upgraded my trans and went with a cheaper faster mod. I went with banks for the protection. I was told it cost more but it will protect your truck more and give me the most power safely. It will not do that. I can still slip it in 456 i should have up graded my trans and got a hotter box for a lot less and with the up graded trans I would not have to worry about my trans.<O:p</O:p

TandC 01-22-2005, 05:05 PM All Three Ford,Gm,Dodge.It"s seems are using the trans as the limiting factors in 04.5/05 .78% TC in all three when 91 to 93 are available ( at Much Higher Costs) Plus Program changes.If you want to use ALL the HP/TQ these tuners Make you Need to upgrade your Trans...If you are Happy with the the lower settings Or the Feel, the stock allison will be just Fine..
Robgmcman 01-25-2005, 05:27 PM I have some work done to my truck and the Banks is doing better. I still out have not spent so much money on it if i knew all this before. I would have bought the Edge. But i did not and i am going to stay with banks for a bit until i am able to get a the version 2 from them. I was told that most likely they would be working on a version2 and from what i can see with my truck if they want to sell more of the lly bundles they better.
Scotty Seelen 01-25-2005, 05:41 PM What work did you have done? I wouldn't think that Banks would make two versions of the 6-gun for the LLY. When the first version for the LB7 didn't perform well, they did the revision. It just seems to me that they would do this more aggressive tuning right away for the LLY. Do you mean a less aggressive tune since currently you can't go beyond level 3?
