: service brake system message
96dragshee 01-21-2005, 07:44 PM Took truck into the dealer today for warning message, service brake system, abs, and brake light on.Service writer called and said module was bad.No local dealer had one in stock, had to ship one down.Truck has 19,000 miles on it,03 cc drw.
Exact same problem. There is a TSB out on this and there is a more detailed thread regarding this issue on this forum - sorry I forgot to do a search for you.
They said it was common and they re-programmed the computer with the fix today.
I have a 2003 Silverado 3500 Dually w/ Duramax LB7/Allison with 35,848 km's on it.
Bam
96dragshee 01-22-2005, 12:07 PM I read the T.S.B,s on the prblem.I figured they would re-program the EBCM but they are going to replace it.Just hope it's a updated version.

BamHmmmmm....I had about 17K miles on mine last year when all my lights went off!!! They replaced the brake module and has been ok since. But...I have a remote start and alarm on my truck and they said that that caused the module to go bad. So if it goes out again, they said if I still had the alarm on the truck that they would not warranty it.
Now that I know that there is a TSB on it, I'll be able to make an argument about it if it happens again! The alarm rep's told me that their alarm should in no way interfere with any functions on the vehicle.
Thanks for the info!!!
96dragshee 01-22-2005, 06:30 PM Just picked my truck up from the dealer.Didn't get 3 miles down the road and the f***ing lights came back on.Now I have to go through the same crap all over again.
Max Payne 01-22-2005, 06:55 PM I'm sure I posted this before... Notice it says DO NOT replace the EBCM!

Condition
Some customers may comment that the ABS light, Service Brake System message comes on intermittently during initial start-up. The condition does not cause a DTC to be stored permanently.
Cause
The cause may be a timing issue related to the cranking/starting of the vehicles. It appears that the condition is more likely to occur on vehicles with diesel engines, though it can occur on vehicles with gasoline engines as well.
Correction
Reprogram the EBCM with TIS software version 7.5, released July 26,2004 or newer. Refer to Service Programming System (SPS) (SI Document ID #1451930).

This bulletin is being revised to update the Ground information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 04-05-25-002 (Section 05 -- Brakes).
Condition
Some customers may comment that the ABS light is on. Upon further inspection, DTCs C0265 and C0201 may be set in the brake module. It is also possible for DTC U1041 to set in other modules. There may also be a loss of communication with the brake module.
Cause
A poor connection at the EBCM ground is causing unnecessary replacements of brake modules.
Important: The EBCM Ground is different for each application. Refer to the list below for the proper ground reference:
<TABLE border=0><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top> • </TD><TD vAlign=top>Midsize Utilities = Ground 304 </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

<TABLE border=0><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top> • </TD><TD vAlign=top>Fullsize Trucks and Utilities = Ground 110 </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
Correction
DO NOT REPLACE THE BRAKE MODULE.
Perform the following steps to improve the connection of the EBCM Ground:
<LI type=1>Remove the EBCM Ground. The EBCM Ground is located on the frame beneath the driver's side door. If multiple grounds are found in this location, the EBCM ground can be identified as the heavy (12-gauge) wire. <LI type=1>Clean the area, front and back, using a Whiz Wheel®. <LI type=1>Install the bolt, ground and a star washer to the frame. <LI type=1>Install a star washer and nut to the backside of the frame.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 9 N·m (79 lb in).
Cover the front and back side of the repair area using Rubberized Undercoating.

96dragshee 01-22-2005, 07:20 PM I seen those T.S.B.'s before I took my truck in.To bad the morons at the dealer haven't.I already tried to prepare myself for the frustration of dealing with this crap. Can't stand to let somebody else work on my truck.Sorry if I offended anybody.
Max Payne 01-23-2005, 03:21 PM You should probably show these to them before they jack around with it anymore.
caswell 01-27-2005, 01:47 PM Are you guys paying for the reprogramming? My truck is doing the same thing and I was told that it wasn't covered under the extended GMPP warranty. $48 I'm beginning to wonder if anything is. (battery replacement cost me >$200), Bogus bad fuel diagnostic (was actually injectors) cost me antother $160...
