I have the Westin Step Platinum Series. Very happy with them. I can't post a picture because I am at work. But I did post my truck in the "Lets see what your ride look like" thread on the 2500HD & 3500HD forum. 2nd page I think.

I have Westin black powder coated and like them.

Lifetime warranty to the original purchaser.

No drill install. took about 1/2 hour per side.

WOJO 1,

I like the look from what I can see in the "Lets see what your ride look like" thread, but would like a better look. Would it be possible to post or email a few more pics when you're not at work? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Question.gif

Thanks!

WOJO 1,

Thanks for getting the pics up! I had and still do have a bit of a time myself leraning about the great new features of The Diesel Place site (nice problem). I like the look of your steps, they appear closer to the body than many I've seen. That's more like what I want, I prefer them in close like that.

What tunes do you listen to on the 10" subs?

Thanks again!

Yeah, these steps are fairly close. My mother and mother in law can even use them well. They are around 5 ft. tall. Summitt is the place. Nice having them here locally as I don't have to pay freight.

And as stated above, No drill install.

I have the Westin bars and prefer them over the steps that are on my wifes Suburban. I think the bars have more room to put your foot on as opposed to the closeness of steps IMO.

WOJO 1,
What kind of deck do you have hooked up to your sub's hooked up to? I am trying to decide whether to go with a base audio system and upgrade, of just go with the 6 disc BOSE. Thanks.

It is just an old Pioneer deck that I pulled from my 95' when I got rid of it. Nothing special but better than stock. I do have a cheap Amp hooked to them though. Not bad sound for what it is but a lot of room for improvement. All in due time.

Man these toys are expensive.

I got my sideboard from trailboss. http://www.trailbosstruck.com/index2.html

(go to sideboards on the left index)

They are somewhat expensive, but very strong. My wife likes having a flat place to put her feet (in heels) when it is wet outside. I like the strength & ease of installation. They bolt right up to the existing frame mounts for the cab.

Here are some pix of the boards for a 2500. The 3500 DRW has a flare at the back of the boards to match the dually wheels. Both 2500 & 3500 boards are wheel to wheel, makes it easier to get items out of the bed or tool box ! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif They also have a back plate which keeps your shoe/foot from sliding across the board/tube and wedging between the cab & the board. That is a VERY nice feature in itself!

When I purchased my 03 the previous owner had already had Stainless Steel Luverne running boards installed. I am very satisfied with them. I have attached a picture for you. My wifes Tahoe has Factory running boards and I like the Luverne better!!!http://www.luvernetruck.com/

I have the Westin Step Bars. I like these because they have an oval step area that is larger and the open area gives plenty of step room. They are black powder coated.

I like the N-Fab bars by far the best. and you can have them powder coated to match your truck.

The only thing bad, is unless the truck sits several inches above stock the steps are to close to the ground. And the pricehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif

I've used Manik bars for years with great success. They have one of the best mounting systems I have seen. Once on they stay put.

Good luck,

I have the Westin Platinum nerf bars and like the fact that they mount close in to the body. I have seen other brands that stick out further and that might seem like they would be easier to use. BUT, I don't use the step when getting in or out so I appreciate the close in mounting. Now the wife uses the step and it works good for her too, keeps both of us happy.

Would be nice if you could try getting in and out of trucks with various styles before you buy to see what works best for your family.

I've got the GM bars on my Crew Cab. They are stainless steel and chrome. I went with the bars over boards because I didn't want any holes in the truck. Michigan winters and heavy salt use don't do vehicles any favors.

I went with the GM bars because they have a single step pad that covers most of the top of the bar. Expensive? Yes, but I got mine discounted because my dad is a dealership retiree where I do business. They treat me well! My understanding is they are the same bars I could have gotten from the factory when I ordered the truck. Personally, I wasn't going to put anything on it because I'm 6'3" and didn't seem to have any problem stepping up, but my youngest daughter needed to put a knee on the threshold and then climb on in, my older daughter was stepping on the carpet along side the rear seat and my wife was making a leap too. The bars have well gotten their use already.

LARSONEM,

I am concerned for wife and daughters too, although I'm not that much taller than them! I like the look without any but I'll have to add soon. Like so many things with all the excellent choices, the choice is harder to make! I keep batting it back & forth in my minds eye and still can't decide!

I too liked the stock look, but the chrome bars have grown on me. As I mentioned with the bars, there is no drillin in the body.

My Tahoe has the factory boards and I like them because they protect the side of the truck too from a lot of stuff. The only disadvantage to the boards on the Tahoe is that in the winter slush, snow and ice collect on the underside. I have an attached, unheated, but insulated garage. All that crap from the road melts in the garage and creates a real mess in there. I wash and squege the floor out there about every week in the winter.

My sitters husband has a 3500 xcab with boards. They only use it in the summer to pull the fifth wheel and store it in the winter. Looking at the number of holes he drilled to mount the boards, there is no doubt that if driven long term in the winter, he'd have problems with rust on down the road.

As for me at 6'3", I use the bars on the truck all the time and the boards on the Tahoe. Just easier to get in and out.

Anyone know who makes the nerf bars for GM? You don't see too many of them around (at least not in the Minneapolis area). I suspect its due to the higher pricing of the GM bars. The sets I have seen have mounts very similar to Westin, and I'm thinking that possibly Westin makes them for GM.

I have the Westin Chromes too. Wife is only 5'1" and needs help getting in. They work great, look good and fit fine. The thing I like about them best is that they stay a lot cleaner than the black running boards. They don't trap the dirt.

twebb I know the AMP automatic steps/running boards are already available for Ford trucks/SUVs. Is 2004 the target date for the GM steps, where did you find that out.?

For anyone interested Kodiak will soon be releasing their own automatic steps/running boards. Supposedly they will be priced close to what it would costs for 4 of their individual automatic steps. So they should be cheaper than AMP's but I think AMP's design is slightly better and sleeker looking from what I've seen.Edited by: y2kboti

y2kboti,

I called one of the engineers at AMP Research and he stated that it would be sometime early next year for the GM version of the Powerstep. Looks to be a pretty cool setup, a little pricey but what the hell. If it keeps the wife shutup about having to climb up into the truck its worth it.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

I was not aware of Kodiak coming out with a similar product. I will have to take a short 20mi trip to there facillity in Cottage Grove OR to see whats up. I will keep you posted.
