: Performance Transmission Failures
dmaxalliTech 01-21-2005, 12:06 PM Pick best option. If you have had a failure post what you were using for power, conditions it failed. The more info the better. Failures with out explanation will be disregarded.
This is a non scientific poll. Results may vary, please contact your physician before posting if you have a history of BS posts.
BMDMAX 01-21-2005, 12:40 PM Stage IV Suncoast. Beaten daily like a rented mule. 500 to 700 plus HP, ZERO issues, 30K miles.
Customer satisfaction with Suncoast before and after the sale 100% positive.
dmaxalliTech 01-21-2005, 01:41 PM Brandon, only vote if it HAS failed...LOL
ratlover 01-21-2005, 01:44 PM ):h
Got Juice? 01-21-2005, 01:51 PM Transgo Failed.
15K miles on it. in 6 months.
Towing... Yes
Sledpulling... No
Dragracing... 4 Passes
DTT T/C in it (same one still going strong in my truck)
C1 Fried
C2 Fried
C3 Fried
C4 Fried
C5 Good Condition
Of course, This all happened the same time that everyone agreed 500+ HP was almost impossible to hit on just diesel; so i felt pretty safe being that the box said 600 HP, Everyone here told me I made 460 not 543.... and to that end, messed up DTT's Schedule by limping in a month early.
ahh well.... the keychain is nifty
Mike L. 01-21-2005, 01:59 PM Juice
You had more issues going on with your trans. You toasted too many clutches at once.
I would not blame this on Transgo.

Oh no, not Blaming Transgo at all. On the contrary, I can recommend the kit without hesitation up to the 400 RWHP levels.. but we do know now that this kind of power 5XX; was simply too much for the transgo to deal with on my useage schedule of towing.
BMDMAX 01-21-2005, 02:29 PM Brandon, only vote if it HAS failed...LOL
Ah, what fun is that. ;) I just have a hard time believing all of these failed trannys.
Even though the survey methods are somewhat flawed I think you need good and bad results, then make it a percentage comparison. Then we would at least know where this huge failed tranny market is coming from.
dmaxalliTech 01-21-2005, 02:48 PM Brandon, I would like to know where they are too... The poll means nothing, just looking for answers to claims.
ratlover 01-21-2005, 02:59 PM A description of the failure like juice listed is very nice.....one could have trans that let go because of some stupid little stock allison part that woulda went anyway.
Duratys 01-21-2005, 03:00 PM I Didnt Want To Ruffel Anyones Feathers Over This, Iwas Just Interested In Seeing What Guys Were Or Had To Do To There Trannies To Have Them Fail, And The Mileage That It Took To Kill It. Witch Programers, Tuners, Boxes, etc Etc Each Guy Was Running Or Combo For That Matter, And What They Were Using There Truck For...work...play....competition. I Understand That The Numbers Wont Be Accurate, I Was Just Currious For The Info. If Your Tranny Is Holding Up With The Mods A Guy Has Done Go Ahead And Post It...the More Info That This Gathers The Better. I Think This Will Help Anyone Looking To Have Tranny Mods See What It Takes To Hold A Certain Amt Of Power.
GMC-2002-Dmax 01-21-2005, 03:49 PM Unfortunatley this poll is a nice gesture, but the full disclosure will never be known because those that HAVE toasted tranny's are not talking..........
If they are talking then beleive what you want from it.............
Personally anything can break and will break.........pushing almost 500Hp/1000TQ will find weak parts fast............):h ):h ):h
So enjoy...........whatever you guys decide today, something better will be out tomorrow...........just like computers and everything else........
JMHO.........
LATER

Burner 01-21-2005, 04:04 PM I doubt anyone will post "my tranny blew"....... How do you think the vendor will react knowing that "their" 5k transmission rebuild failed and someone braodcast that information on the web. TTS, ATS, DTT or Suncoast........ it doesn't matter. We all know how fast the words 'bad products' spread.
Warrenty has good pull around 5k. ;) Who wants to loose theirs due to loose lips?

sdaver 01-21-2005, 04:05 PM suncoast level v no issues
dmaxalliTech 01-21-2005, 04:15 PM This thread was not intended to breed bad blood or whatever. There were comments on how all these transmission failures were out there.... Not seeing it so far. A few, but nothing that amounts to anything.
heartbeatcanada 01-21-2005, 05:17 PM Gone through 2- stage 4's SC back in the fall of 03(no stage 5 available at those times. Stage 5 SC came along in the late fall/early winter of 03 and it was installed.(stage 4 back then was a complete drop in, not up to speed on the new stages that are available, but think they have changed) All that was warranty. Stage 5 lasted until July 04. Will be making some decisions soon, on what is to be done for the upcoming year, can say a co-pilot is a must if your serious about power and being competitive in the dirt or on the pavement
On edit- Just read that i need an explanation for the failures.
First failure was a total wipe out. Tranny was only 2 weeks old from driving all the way down to Suncoast. Racing a ford 6.0 after a truck pull. Raced once, totally killed him, he wants one more go. I of coarse agree, and spool up and go about 10ft and no go. Damn embarrasing gettting towed back to the party by the ford that i just spanked. Joe sent new parts, back on the streets loose and hunting for victims.
Second failure was a total wipe out again. This is about 2 months after the first. Trans had some truck pulls, and some cough cough street racing cough cough under its belt. Not too much abuse, but failed when towing trailer and bobcat. Joe again sent parts, and was upgraded to the new stage 5(at the time) with the single sided clutches, and a different stall converter. Back on the road, and looking for more victims to humiliate.
Last failure was a slow and gradule death. Trans seemed to be in pms stages, shifting nice, not shifting nice and not making its mind up. This all took place within a week or so. Tried changing solenoids, as it was an easy swap and chance, but no dice. Trans had 4 truck pulls and about 40 to 50 runs at the track with the nos. Not sure when it started to deteriate, but it was shortly after Muncie. Everything was wiped including pump, except the single sided c1's:ro) No warranty on trans. Talked to Joe and we had a conflict on our hands. I'm not getting into details, but i basically got stuck in between a dispute between my installer up here and Joe. I was stuck in the middle, and see both sides of the story, and agree with both. No hard feelings, i was looked after by my installer, and life goes on.
I will be looking at whats available shortly and make my choice on what i think is the best for me(possible new truck on its way). I can say a co-pilot is on the short list, as i've seen what it does to a truck that didn't have one.......wow, what a change. What i have works now, but then again so did the previous 3 trans, so i'm looking to improve and find that bulletproof allison...........well at least in a perfect world that would nice.

Could just be my bad luck, as i just had 3 injectors go again, these are the replacement remans gm is using. None the less it sucks when your tranny fails
BIG DIPPER 01-21-2005, 06:40 PM Failures with out explanation will be disregarded.
This is already messed up.....when you look at the results, 3 names are next to the level 4/5 for Suncoast....BMDMAX...which we know hasn't had a failure, Sdaver.....which I'm pretty sure hasn't had a failure....and of course Diesel Tech  .
Mike L. 01-21-2005, 07:45 PM BIG DIPPER
You are right it's messed up. I accidently voted. I thought I was voting no problems. Sorry.
dmaxalliTech 01-21-2005, 08:18 PM Fred, installing my L IV tomarrow

I screwed it up first! ):h :o
Ah cain't reed gud fer komprehenshun. I thought it was a good/bad survey at first and got a little trigger happy, then I realized it was for failed trannys only. :o
Max Power 01-21-2005, 08:33 PM I killed a stock allison. Would that be 'other'? :D
GMC2500HD 01-21-2005, 10:43 PM Ok first of all, not all the members I spoke to with upgrades in the trans dept are on this board. I know people in my area who have SC and ATS that know about this board but are not members here for whatever reason. I have told them about this place and if they make it here then they will tell the tale. Just because you are not seeing the results of a thread you posted, I am not to blame. I talked to these people, got the answers I wanted and went from there. This "I have to prove everything" to you guys has just about gone far enough. You need to get over it. If you are happy with what you have then fine. Stay that way, and if not then move on. I would go easy as the stuff that gets talked about goes deep around here and sometimes I think it really stinks. But we all stay, laugh it off and have a good time. So let's keep it that way and just deal with the issues. This post is useless as no one is going to come forward and admit that theirs trans has failed. Now if we were all honest about this then more people would come forward.... I have said enough.....
Diesel Power 01-22-2005, 12:31 AM yes this poll is useless. heartbeat was the only one to come forward. thank you, but it won't help unless everyone does.. which they won't. poll's done..
