: Which Programmer is right for me?

Hi all

I have finally decided to put a programmer in my ’03 Dmax and would like some input on which one would be my best choice for my need. I do not want to gain 200 hp, just a few more ponies to play with from time to time and help a hair with pulling the boats safely. I would like something that (the HP) can be easily changed to fit my needs since I tow so often. I tow a 12,000+ boat a few times a yr and a bass boat a few times a week. My truck is bone stock with just a K&N filter. One thing I don’t want to do is get into a programmer that will force me to modify my exhaust. I like the way it sounds now, Quiet. If, say, maybe just changing out the muffler would help me, I would be ok with that as long as it stays somewhat stock sounding. The removal of a speed limiter is a must, but no need for the tire calibration. Are there certain ones out there that let the EGT’s run “cooler” than others? Hopefully I will get around to installing my Pyro and boost gauges in the next few days. That is the 1st thing I will do before any mods are put in. I plan on having this truck for awhile, so I don’t want to go overboard with anything that will cause premature failure in the trans, etc……. Like I said, just a bit more than what I have would be nice and if there is one out there that will help me pull that big boat (in a low tune) without doing a ton of mods, great. The Number 1 factor in waiting so long is making sure it will be “safe” for the truck.<O:p</O:p

<O:p</O:p

Thanks guys……..<O:p</O:p

I like the Hypertech. Three levels of HP (40, 70, 90) to choose from. I've been using it for some time now. No problems/codes thrown. Check it out at the Hypertech web site.

I liked my edge but it dosnt take care of the speed limiter though. I like TTS tunes and they seem to run pretty cool comparatively. I like how the truck shifts with em too. The power loader 3 that is going to come out will have some very nifty features.

Try and see if you can try a few differnt tunes. Either make a road trip and play with somones truck close to you or talk to a dealer close to you and see if they have a couple they will let you try. Duno were you are exactly in MI but Dmaxallitech might have a few on hand and Huckstorph(Wi Huck) may be close to you and might have a few widgets to try.

I've heard good things about the 70-125 Van Aaken l for a towing box. Runs relatively cool and doesn't mean you need the aftermarket exhaust. Not a tuner/programmer though.

On your Signature you have just gauges. What kind of temps are you getting stock? And if you tow? I'm curious if anyone else has gauges on a truck with a tuner with everything else stock and what they are getting for egt's?. My buddy has a PS and he could tow his 21' boat up the mountains and just barley tickle 1200°, and that was the only time he saw temps like that. After installing a superchips, he could hit that just taking off from a light without towing...

You need a tuner. Harness boxes do not change the speed limiter (edge, va, etc).

I have the Predator and am running it on 40 hp. I love it it really wakes up my 05 dmax. It helps alot when i pull my 10 ton trailer.

Do you know what you are hitting for temps? Is everything else stock?

if youre looking for a great program that will tow, not run hot, give you great performance that you dont have to worry about then get the TTS Tow Tune, it is by far the best bet

Also if you are comparing tunes and other things(especially EGT's) remember that an LB7(what you have) and the newer LLY's are different animals

Yep. I'm real happy with the TTS Tow for LLY's, but I have no personal experience with the LB7, other than what friends tell me, which is that it is very smooth as well.

The hottest I've seen is 1200°F and 22 psi boost totally stock. That's not towing anything, but the truck is grossed out at 9200 lbs. I have heard of other members here having egt's as high as 1350°F on a stock truck pulling a decent load.
