: First oil change with Fumoto Valve install

Hello everyone,

Well I took advantage of some nice weather today and performed my first oil change with some rowdy friends (http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e166/f3fidy/Tools.jpg). 956 miles was on the odometer. I installed a Fumoto Valve also because these little honeys are outstanding.

Hats off to the men and women who installed the engine oil filter (http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e166/f3fidy/Oilfilterwithfriend.jpg) at the factory. That filter was on so tight, it would have made it to the moon and back without breaking free . But no worries, like Popeye and his spinach, I powered down some beverages and called it good.

Oh ya I whipped up some ghetto ramps for better clearance.

I'd really like to install the Fumoto Valve but I am concerned that someone will get under there and dump my oil. Maybe I'm just too paranoid. Anyone had any negative issues with installing these (episodes of vandalism?)

If you bang somebody's wife, or something of the sorts...and they want to drain your oil, they're going to, Fumoto valve or not. An adjustable wrench in hand, they can take care of just about anything. I find it hard to believe someone's just going to look under (out of the blue) there and go, "whohoo! this guy's not going anywhere now!" and drain it. I don't have one, but just a thought. :)

The problem may be more to prevent things from getting stuck on the valve and open it or break it off. It looks somewhat protected in this case, but you never know ...

Fumoto does suggest adding a 5/8" spring clamp to the valve to make it harder to accidentially open the valve. With this added, it would be just another deterent to the mischievious person who wanted to dump your oil

I added the spring; it's strong enough that you need pliers to move it; can't do it by hand. So a tool would be necessary to facilitate vandalism.

Check out the Fumoto site at www.fumotousa.com

First off, with the amount of oil these trucks hold, if someone did dump your oil, you would see it on the ground. Beyond that, someone would have to know you had a valve on there. You don't think people go around looking under peoples trucks to see if they have a Fumoto valve, do you? Anyway, if they were that intend on dumping your oil, they would bring a wrench.

Ok, Ok, I'll stop being so paranoid. The clip looks like a good idea.

Is/are there vendors that sell them here of DP?

I believe www.lubricationspecialist.com sells them; is he still a vendor here?

That's where I bought mine. If you go to his site, click on the Fumoto section, and he has all the different ones available. The reason I say this is that in him "duramax" section, he shows the F-106 drain valve, but not the spring clip. If you go straight to his Fumoto section, he shows ALL the valves AND the spring clip.

I missed the spring clip on his site, then I had to drive around to 6 different store (no kidding) to try and find one. I wish I had noticed it on his site and saved myself the trouble.

If someone was that pissed at you, it'd be easier to mess you up your ride vis the diesel filler hose if you don't have a locking gas cap so don't wouldn't worry about it.

As for breaking it off, unless you're going into an extreme 4x4 situation, you should be fine...chances are something else will break off before the Fumoto. JMO.

No issues with mine since installed.

A guy at work pissed me off, so I made him think he lost all the oil from his engine. He carried around 2, 2 gallons jugs of used oil in the bed of his truck. So, I grabbed one and dumped it out on the ground under his truck, figuring correctly that he'd be too dumb to check the oil level with the dipstick. He left before I did, and when I went out an hour later he had a tow truck hooking for a 45 mile ride to the dealer. He was so arrogant he fought the dealer when they found the engine full of oil. He was also mad as hell about the $100 tow and the diagnostic charge he paid at the dealer. He never did figure out where the oil came from and I never did tell him!

I have never heard of such a thing. However, remember, if you have somebody who really does not like you, oil drain plugs come out with wrenches, and anybody can slip under your truck in seconds and loosen it up.

I think there are more realistic things to worry about.

The Fumoto drain valve comes in 2 configurations that fit a DMax. The one shown on this post has a hose nipple on it, but there is also a version without the nipple. The valve body on that type is pretty low-profile and looks mostly snag-free, but of course both are a bit bulkier than a standard drain plug.
I just picked up a hose clip to keep the valve shut, and added a soft rubber cover over the nipple with a smaller clip there too, to keep the nipple free of grime. I'll post a pic soon.

That sucks. Did you at least clean off the oil or even better, were you fined for pollution?

Here's the goods.
I got carried away with the hose clips of course, and the third clip over the threads is just a temp to keep me from losing the gasket.

Going to their website makes you install a japanese font. So I guess "Made in the USA" is out of the question. :)

X2. Kennedy diesel sells them, that's where I got mine. I too was paranoit about it either accidentally being drained or my girlfriends husband doing it.
I will get some 5/8 spring clamps now but I have a piece of air hose clamped to the nipple w/a short bolt clamped in the end currently.

I just installed mine 30 minutes ago, and I love the thing. There is almost no way anything will every snag it as it doesn't stick down very far. If anyone wants to order one, the part number is F-106N (N is for nipple).
Two thumbs way up for the Fumoto Valve.:D

Oh by the way....timzr02. Your story that you told about what you did to that guys truck makes you sound like a real Neanderthal.

Kind of a jerk off move. If you have a problem with some one deal with it face to face. You took the cowards way out.

True,........ but wouldn't you think the guy would be smart enough to raise the hood and check the oil? He ASSUMED a lot on that one.

I'm considering a purchase of this valve, but have a question. My truck has less than 600mi on it so I haven't changed the oil yet. Is there a magnet on the OEM drain plug? If so, how important is it to have a magnet because the Fumoto doesn't have one?

I'm almost positive it does. I use a FilterMag on mine so the issue is null

Found the rubber cap at an auto parts store, and for a change it fit perfectly. Should be easy to find something, even if it's just a hose clamped back on itself.

i think its hilarious!!!!! i did that to a buddy with a mustang one time. but he was smart enough to check his oil and the entire car!!!! once he was satisfied it wasnt from his car he hoped in and drove away. it was a 45 minute inconvience for him but i sure got a laugh out of it. Then one day we were shuffling some stuff around my truck and figured out that i had a gallon of oil missing from the bed and he put 2 and 2 together. Now im waiting for the retaliation :o:
