When you use a predator as a scanner, does this VIN lock the predator? Can it be used as a scan tool on mulitple vehicles without unlocking? Anyone know if it will work on any OBDII vehicle for code reading or only the Duramax?

It will give you some data on other vehicles especially codes, but it seems that many of the features are specially tuned for the diesel aspect(I've used it on my friends Envoy to pick up some data)

No in scan tool use for diagnose purposes it can be used on multiple D-maxes! The Predator will Vin lock ONLY if you load a tune.It will then extract your stock tune which will VIN lock the tool, but diagnostics and code clearing are still available for your Friends trucks.
The Predator will only clear read ECM not TCM codes and real time data and is Duramax specific. There is a Multiple vehicle scan tool sold by the parent company although.

Great, so can you can clear codes on vehicles that it can read codes from (non duramaxes)? Does the other scan tool from the same company read and clear TCM & BCM codes?

A little clarification. According to Diablo's website: The Predator for the LB7 becomes VIN locked once the tune is loaded and the PROGRAMMING part can not be re-used on another vehicle unless it is sent back to the manufacturer to be "un-locked" for a fee.
The Predator for the LLY becomes locked (married) to the vehicle once the stock tune is loaded into it, BUT when you re-load the stock tune back into the vehicle it came from the programmer automatically becomes "un-locked" and can be immediately used to reprogram another vehicle. It only becomes unlocked when the stock tune is restored to the original vehicle. This is obviously an improvement.
They also state that the scanner part of the Predator can be used on any OBDII compliant vehicle MADE BY THE SAME MANUFACTURER (GM/GM Ford/Ford etc).

Sent a note to Diablo on the Predator VIN unlock feature the LLY version has and asked if it would be available on the LB7 version in the future, they indicated there would be an upgrade in the future that could not be added via the online downloads and would have to be returned to them. No mention of price tag for the upgrade.
