I had seen people talking about "VRStraps", a flat stainless replacement for our weak cables. Where can I find them?

Disregard...I found them with a search!

 Better than the ones we get in the recall with the little white "Made in China" labels?

do they rattle like the old ones use to? one of my old truck had little rubber bumpers to keep them from rattling around.

gearhead, the pivot pin on the VR straps is a solid pin, not a hollow rivet like the old ones. Much tighter tolerances and less "slop and wiggle." I've had a set on my truck since they were first prototyped and mine do not rattle or rub my paint.

If you have a recall notice send in the paperwork with an invoice from the VR straps You might even get GM to reimburse you. I DID :D $64.95 check from GMC

The website has been relocated here for the time being http://dsdd.com/vrstrap/. Anyhow I don't have any stock in at the moment, but I have more on the way and should have them available to ship early Feburary.

Any straps yet? Tried to send you an email through your website--did not work. I load a 600lb 4 wheeler into the bed all the time, and cringe at those cables everytime!

I've got the post recall straps on my truck, would the VR straps still be a good idea?

for those interested I got a new supply in today and will have them ready to ship over the weekend or sooner.

I'm also on vacation from the 18th to the 27th so no orders will be processed during that time.

As for the new cables, I don't know I haven't gone to the dealer to get mine yet.

I've got plenty except backorders will get first priority but there's enough to go around for a while.

You won't see a brown truck, my preferred ship method is the postal service.

Yea, I want mine too! You except fax for the forms? Or just send them in mail--no use using paypal then--just send you a check! If so, where do I send paypal to? If I don't hear from you, I'll just send a check and the forms in the mail! Thanks

Sounds like a good idea. I have not brought my truck in for the recall yet. Is it possible that I could order VR straps and have Chevrolet reimburse it?

someone here has done that but I don't know who it was.

Victory Red

It's not likely you'll get reimbursed. I only know of one succesfull attempt and several failed attempts. On top of that, now that there is a 'fix' for the faulty ones, it's even less likely. These are now plainly an aftermarket accessory for those who like shiny thinks, retro look, or just the peace of mind of a classic design.

Also for those of interested, I've got all the backorders finished but still need to package and drop off for shipping. I apologize for the extended delay, but i'm a one man operation and got caught off guard with an unexpected resurgence in demand.

Victory Red,

Just received my straps today, very, very nice! Would highly recommend that people change out to these.

Victory Red, I just got the set last week in the mail and I might say, wow! Very nice, well engineered set! Installation is a breeze. Now I can breathe much better when loading/unloading my sled on the truck. Defintely worth the cost of this set.

I only have a question ... what is the recommended torque specs for the bolts holding the straps on the tailgate? Thanks!

Have these ever popped out of the top bolt where you can release them at? I've seen the old style GM ones they had years ago like that pop out when lifting tailgate.

Just installed mine yesterday. They look very beefy, but they do seem like they would rattle around in there! We'll see!

Victory Red

wxmn6, I'm not 100% sure but if memory serves the torque amount was 16lbs(maybe a tech or someone with a service manual can chime in). I've only installed a few sets for users but normally I just go 'tight enough' and add a little blue loctite to the threads. To this date I've never heard of one backing out on someone.

Grizzly the old ones would pop out because the hinge point(a rivet in those days) would begin to corrode and bind. These won't corrode but should you begin to see a bit of binding a little compressed air and a spray lube should handle it. Also if you're a little more adventurous, the 'button can be pryed off' with a flat blade screwdriver and the E-clip can be removed as well so you can completely disassemble, emery cloth the hinge pin(which is a solid 3/8" stainless pin) and reassemble, however be careful not to lose the clip since those suckers can go flying on you. However I've had no reports of binding issues as of yet. I have had customers say that it will pop loose if you drop the tailgate from closed to open, the little flat retainer just isn't strong enough to keep that much force.

As for rattling, haven't had a complaint for that yet either. Do they?, not sure can't hear it over my exhaust and I haven't seen any wear related to them swinging back and forth. It's pretty tight in there so I'm thinking it would take a hard stop/start to get them to sway enough.

Victory Red, Is there any kind of holding piece like on the stock ones so it doesn't pop of the hinge pin? Like say if you had to have the tailgate down and hit some bumps or something.

Hello:

Question, the Vrstap wesite states for up to 2004 year trucks, nothing about 2005 trucks. I emailed the web site three times about 2005 truck with no reply. Has anybody bought or contacted VRstraps for this. I can asume there is no difference for the 2004 to 2005 trucks. Just a question??

sorry about the no website response. There is no change to the 05 body style pertaining to the cable other than "made in china". I just returned from a week long visit to Canada to visit some customers(yes I have real day time job).
