My truck is an 03 LB7 with only 14k on it, but I wonder what people think about extended warranties on these trucks. In general I never buy them on any of my vehicles, but I pull an RV, and repairs to this tranny are not cheap.

If people do think it is a good idea, any suggestions of who to get it from - GM, 3rd party?

I have been thinking about buying an extended warranty. I checked other threads and the GMPP is probably the best. Here are some comparision prices from dealers that have been listed here and on other websites. (Called today)

Thanks for all the legwork! Is the 48 month from after the end of the standard 36 month warranty, or from the day you buy it? From what you say, the milage extension seems to be from current mileage. If it is from when you buy it, I would guess it is more if you wait until month 35. 1500 is a fair amount of money, but if you touch anything on the allison, I think it runs 2500 minimum.

Read carefully. If you've modified, the extended warranty will burst your bubble faster than the original warranty. Federal warranty laws do not apply to extended and/or aftermarket warranties.

SteveAs I understand it, the mileage is added to your current odometer. The months are not added at the end of your of your factory warranty, but are retro to when you purchased your truck.

If I misunderstood, I am sure someone will correct this post.

It is a risk buying any of the plans, but like you and others have stated, the extremely high cost of repair with the high tech vehicles we buy, it is a fundamentally sound risk to purchase.

The best plan is the $200 deductible because it will take several covered repairs before you will surpass the $0 deductible plan cost.

BTW, if you purchase a GMPP warranty after you have 24,000 miles on you vehicle, the price rises dramatically for each plan per their charts.

I have had the GMPP warranty on the 2 previous vehicles I had and will get it again. It is far superior to any other extended warranty. I had a GE extended warranty on a 1998 Dodge and it wasn't worth the paper it was written on. All it paid for was 50% of the parts nothing on labor or troubleshooting. I learned my lesson. The GMPP warranty paid over $3800 on a 1999 Tahoe my wife had, all it cost us was $50.00 deductible.

I would have a significantly lower enthusiasm level if I were only paying for one year of protection. From looking at the web site you listed above, it seems that the mileage is total mileage as you state, but the months in effect are from the date of gmpp purchase - that sound right?

Got it - you weren't kidding - the price goes way up after 24,000 miles on the vehicle. The difference between 24,000 and 24,001 is almost 1000 dollars. Moral of the story seems to be to buy it just before you go over 24k on the odometer. Any idea - if you somehow purchase the contract from these guys online, how do they know you are not lying about your mileage?

I have installed a few Suncoast level 3's under extended warrantys. It works out pretty well because they allow enough money to cover the updated mod. What they don't know won't hurt them an I am doing a good service for my customer.

Unless they have changed the rules, my 72/75 GMPP expires on 5/09/2008 at 75,000 miles. Truck was placed in service on 3/08/2002 and I purchased the warranty on 8/20/2003 with 18,641 miles on the odometer. Warranty is the "Major Guard". The warranty was $1600 for $100 ded. at Ourismans Chev in Wheaton, MD (301-946-0001).
