Someone had a "brain fart". I would go back and ask the dealership and have them correct.

A gasoline engine combustion cycle is a "burn" process. In a diesel application the process is a literal "explosion". A violent affair which puts explosive forces on the connecting rod bearings. One of the major functions of an engine oil lubricant is cushioning. In a diesel engine one of the single life extending advances in the past 20 years was the transition from 30 to 15W-40.. I nearly doubled diesel engine bearing life!
So, in a word, NO, not ever, a 30W in a diesel engine. We need that 40W film thickness to provide that cushioning...

Many people have had no problems at all using amsoil's 5w30 HDD diesel motor oil. In fact, Amsoil claims it has their beefiest additive package. I am thinking of switching to this oil on my next change. However, if the dealer put a 5w30 rated for gasoline engines, you should have them change it out.

It may also be that they did the right thing with the oil change, but were a bit too mechanized on the paperwork and just billed it out like the other 99.8% of their oil changes. Either, way, go back and have them correct the error

Not tring to piss anyone off, but my duramax fires the fuel injectors 3 times during the power stroke

explosions are instant, I cant see how a injector could fire 3 times all at once?

Mabee im wrong

There are a couple 10w30's out there that are Diesel Spec'd, but make sure you see a diesel spec, since most are for gasoline engines.

I have had Amsoil Series 3000 5w-30 in my truck for 48.000 miles now without drainplug being removed using oil analysys once a year. I have the Amsoil Dual Remote and just change my filters.
