I've read every post about the Big Head and still have concerns about it.I installed mine as per the instructions (7 turns). After road test I was disapointed.
The seat of the pants test was telling me it went better with the stock actuator.I then adjusted it one more turn to eight total. That seems to have improved things considerably. All I have for a boost gauge is the attitude monitor which is basically useless as it only goes to 25.6.I don't know why Edge could'nt make it go higher but that's a topic for another thread.I read about guys barking their turbos because of spikes on 4-5 shifts, indicating too much boost.Mine is a gear jammer so I can't shift as fast as the auto guys.I run the Hot Juice/135 Quad stack without ever having barked the turbo.I do experience bursting though on the higher settings. I know I need a real boost gauge but until then I would like to think I am going to be fairly safe.Any thoughts or comments:confused: ?

The edge 'boost fools' the MAP sensor so as not to trip an overboost code in the ECM.

Get a Boost gauge.

Better yet, get an air compressor and a precision air gauge on a bleed valve. Set the wastegate so the arm starts moving the flapper at 26lbs of air pressure. That's it... it is safe at all altitudes and you now have the maximum output and safest setting for turbo longevity at high power levels.
Any other method is sheer guesswork.
From the 2 banks gates i have recieved, 8 turns yielded a 7 psig DIFFERENCE between the 2
I do not know if it was the internal diafram or spring rate differences or if one is threaded on a bit more than the other. BUT using controlled compressed air is the ONLY way to be sure.

There.
Do a search on the '550.5' and read why this is necessary

i seen an extra hp gain, when installing mine, not much, but a bit, but definatly seen the boost come on quicker from a idle, as for turns i was at nine if i remember correctly

westcoaster, i am assuming you have an aftermarket clutch. cause i have no seen an zf-6's even hold the attitude alone. just thought i would check =)

Got Juice ..........I tried that.

The way I did it was the inital 7 turns then set my air compressor regulator to 28lbs.I hooked it to the actuator hose via the air blow gun I had and used one of the spring clamps to make an air tight seal. The arm on the waste gate did'nt move but I'll put it this way the slack or tension in the actuator was taken up.I would say the waste gate was on the verge of opening. This probably sounds hokey pokey but it was pissing down rain while I was trying to do this.
I think the accracey of the regulator gauge is probably marginal at best and all that rubber hose on the compressor probably affects things as well.

W'Coaster... it can be hard to set up... the arm can bind up a bit.... try a few 35 psi 'charges and letoffs' and see if that helps a bit.

RyanU: Yes i've got Mac's single disc.Just put it in over xmas.My stock set up lasted until approx 30,000 miles then she smoked up real bad.Arter that I had to take it easy until my kit came.
