I drove my truck for almost 2hrs straight this afternoon. Vast majority was highway miles at 50-70mph... Temp was 10F(no cover)... about 15 miles from home i happened to look down and saw that the tranny gauge was below 100...Got home and short time later i went out and w/in 10mins the gauge was on the move to the low 100's....Any ideas? Any easy ways to test for faulty gauge? If bad does the whole dash have to be changed?
p.s-truck has about 32750 miles on it...changed spin on few thousand ago....

Not faulty.

The Allison temp sensor is up near the valvebody. When the truck sat the entire mass warmed and was reflected on the gauge reading.
Mine will do the same thing when I start off with low ambient temps.

If you can get ahold of a scanner of some sorts(snapon tech 2 ect) you could plug it in and see what it shows. Also you could zap the pan with a infared thrmometer and see how hot the pan is.

Its underwarantee. I would assume a cool dealer would plug it into thier scanner quick like for you with no hassel.

Like was aid, you will get some heat soak. Could be normal(seems cold to me though) or it could be a sender or a gauge.

when going down the highway, that cold air is going across the cooler and the tcc is locked so its not building much heat anyways. Around time, the airflow is down and your running around with the tcc unlocked more of the time, when its unlocked its 'shearing' oil and that makes heat

Your truck is operating perfectly normal
