: Delivery Checklist
bowtiebob 11-21-2003, 04:56 AM Ok guys, the wait is almost over. My dealer told me today he figured the truck would be here before Thanksgiving (a week from now for you calander challenged). What should I be inspecting when I first get the truck? Are there any flashes/upgrades that need to be done as soon as the truck hits the dealer, or will everything be up-to-date? Fluid levels, things like that? The dealer should be responsible for those, but you never know...... Also, what type of break-in should I be following?? I assume there is something about this in the owner's manual, but are there specific directions that anyone can offer that was/will work well. My predicted driving for the next little while will consist of short trips (~50-75 miles round trip) on the highway, followed up by coming back to Pullman a little over a week from now (~240 miles). I seem to remember reading that the first 500 miles I should not maintain one speed, but vary speed levels. My roommate says drive the truck where you want to get the best mileage, but that sounds kinda.........http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif. Anyway, sorry to ramble, excited about the truck, but let me know what kind of stuff I should be thinking about.

ISurvivedNMU 11-21-2003, 08:47 AM The rear end needs to be broken in properly... That means stay below 45-55 for the first 500... If you can..... Be easy on the truck, no full throttle take offs, and don't tow during that time... Some say to change the diff fluid then, others wait until 500 miles of towing. Change your trans filter at 2,000 or earlier.... and again after 5,000 more.... And enjoy the truck...
Everybody has a list a little different, so take out of each sugestion what makes sense to you.... Later
DuckDog 11-21-2003, 12:53 PM Check your tire pressure and fluids before you leave the dealer lot. My truck had 20 psi in one front tire and 30 psi in the other. The dealer acted like I was stupid when I complained, they told me I only needed 30 psi. I pointed out the decal on the door that says 55 psi. Then I get really pissed off and told them they had endangered my life by letting me drive away with severely underinflated tires. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gifI told them that I wanted new tires because they were possibly heat damaged from 70 mph driving. They still treated it like a big joke. My power steering fluid was so low it was not even on the stick. That was no big deal either. They act like you are buying a CD at Walmart, not like you are spending $47,000 on a vehicle. This dealer does nothing to prep the vehicles other than take the plastic off the seats. Oh yea the salesman was an a**hole too. Before my credit was approved he was telling me that he thought I would need more than the $12,000 downpayment. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif Man, did that piss me off. I probably make more than twice as much $ as him, and have perfect credit. Maybee it has something to do with me wearing cut off shorts and a tee shirt while he wears a suit and tie. Guess what, I did not recieve a GM customer satisfaction survey. Please check your truck thoroughly, you may be the only one that does. Sorry if I got carried away, but this really makes me mad.

Paintless dent remover just happened to be there that day and straightened it out in about 15 minutes. I also had 30 psi in all four tires.
GMC-2002-Dmax 11-21-2003, 10:26 PM I would ask for a copy of the PDI that the Dealer is required to do.
It is called a Pre-Delivery-Inspection. They are supposed to check all fluids, etc.
Take a good look at every inch of your new BABY, roof especially . Check for any scratches or dents. Open all doors, hood, tailgate and look for any overspray in case of a factory repair.
Check the functionality of all lights, horn, blinkers, radio, ON-STAR, etc.
Make sure you get all manuals, paperwork, Allison Video Tape.

That's all I do that and scratches ... Rest doesen't matter,I'll check ..... I do not allow my dealer to even detail or remove all plastic on interior.... I tell them up front you remove NO DEAL ....
I prefer to do it myself ....

Bowhunter 11-22-2003, 12:11 AM Be sure to check the fluid level in the rear differential. Mine and several other guys on here found it to be anywhere from two to four quarts low. Remove filler plug and see if you can even touch it with your finger. Chances are you won't even need a rag to wipe it off. It should hold approx. six quarts. I drained mine at 1500 miles and only got 2 1/2 qts out.
